Damn is this guy ever astute. It's like no one had ever thought of this before.

FFS they've been sponsoring state terrorism since the partition in 1947. The problem is that the US has chosen to avoid the topic because they don't want to confront the elephant in the room and would rather pretend that Pakistan is an ally who just happens to have nuclear capability.

It's time to stop pretending they're our best friends in the region and call them what they really are. A bunch of State led radical thugs who sponsor terrorism worldwide and protect those who perpetrate the murder of innocents.

Also, China would love to have more influence with Pstan, to set it off against India. So better for the West to hold it's nose and give money to a govt funding terrorism than having a full on terrorist govt.

Exactly. It isn't a new revelation. The assclowns in PakiStan have gone to war 4 times with India trying to annex a state that doesn't belong to them and their good old ally the US has completely ignored that fact when giving billions in aid that has been used to turn their military and security forces into radical Muslim forces that protected pricks like Bin Laden and executed foreign citizens.

These irrational actions by the US were also instrumental in forcing India into the Soviet Union sphere of influence rather than the wests where they belonged given their heritage and history.

Well, let's give the guy credit. We know that in diplomacy you don't call a spade a spade very often. It takes a lot to be this frank. So maybe this is Harper planning on being tougher with Pstan. Harper has certainly been looking good on the Ukraine file, tho it's easy for him since he has little to lose and a lot of votes to gain. You'd think if this presaged a shift in govt policy tho, they would use John Baird for this.

Pakistan was an alliance of convenience for Afghnaistan and Iran. It's not exactly a newsflash that they are a state sponsor of terrorism. But the situation is a little more complex than that. Theya re fighting the Taliban in the badlands, but the Islamists have also overrun the ISI. The country is not very stable.

I'd have to say that Pakistan politics is an incredibly difficult balancing act and as much as it is easy to say, oh those guys sponsor terror, the fact of the matter is they have been the targets of terror as often as they are thought to sponsor it.


The truth about this region of the world is, people are quite simply extreme when it comes to their religious views. And regardless of which side you are supporting in their politics, every political faction has a militant arm and are willing to impose violence if they believe that it will achieve their ends.

The best you are ever going to get from this place is a lesser of 2 evils type of scenario, and when we do get the lesser, we are inclined to hold our nose and support them for fear of the alternative.

There is simply no easy solution.

When I was there, Afghanistan so much wanted to be like Pakistan. I remember remarking to a friend, "That's pretty sad when you're looking at Pakistan and saying 'Man, I wish we could be like those guys.'"
