Don't download things you didn't pay for, and no need to worry. On the flip side, companies I think need to prove harm before they go all 900 pound gorilla on single moms and underage kids.

Don't download that movie just watch it. Don't download that song just listen to it. Treat your computer like a TV or Radio and you won't run into trouble with the law.

Yeah even youtube has recent movies in full @1080p res, don't go after that or people who upload them.

And basically that's why i do now, watch and listen 99% of the time cut my cable connection, just kept the basic FTA stuff. Just youtube has so much stuff on it, keeps one entertained for hours on end, from documentaries to tutorials and ofcourse a lot pirated stuff too which has been there for years and hasn't been taken down.

Soundcloud.com is good site for music from mainstream to indie musicians with many free and legal downloads too.

http://music.cbc.ca/ as well. Some good streaming 'stations'. Don't know if it's available outside of Canada though.

Who needs to download songs these days - there are dozens of programs/websites that can strip the audio track right off YouTube. As for movies, most of them aren't worth the effort of downloading them anyways, I just get them from the library.

:P Hollywood!

Mostly these songs have a different mix and master for youtube to sound louder and better on shitty laptop speakers or eaebuds, now there is a whole new term in audio engineering for it called itunes mastering.

So if you're even a bit of an audiophile or don't like your audio to sound like its coming from a toilet bowl you'll avoid the youtube audio rips.

Yeah, I'm not an audiophile, so it doesn't bother me. Heck, I only switched from cassette to CDs when someone gave me a free CD player!

And you probably don't mind watching those horrible pirated prints shot in a cinema with a potato where the screen appears as it would through the eyes of someone who has cataract and you can hear people talking to themselves in the theatre rather than the dialogue and halfway through the potato falls on its side and you have to watch rest of the movie lying on your side.

Audio and video just as it was meant to be seen as heard ;)

Viewing or listening to something on the net is a download whether you save it or not.
