They have sheriffs in Alberta pulling people over? Thought they only transported prisoners and worked in the court room.

It's been like that for a few years now. They put sheriffs on the highways as a response to the Hwy 63 death toll among the Ft McMeth people.

It's called intragated traffic enforcement, they work with the RCMP. I listen to an online police scanner out of Red Deer, the Sherrifs write up most of the speeding tickets on this section of the QE2. They can only enforce the HTA, any criminal code related infractions are handled by the RCMP.

I saw the TV interview with this Doctor. She's petite, and about as offensive as a kitten.

I'm going out on a limb and say this was excessive for a traffic stop.

This is why we have a Second Amendment in the USA.

I don't mean to be obtuse but, what the hell does a well regulated militia and the right to bear arms have to do with a traffic stop that went bad?

And as much as I think everyone should have the right to bear arms, I don't think her having a gun would have helped since she probably would have had to use it before the alleged assault took place for it to be effective and that would have led to at the very least a gunfight. 8O

Yup.Out here anyways. Sheriffs have the same 'power & authority' as RCMP as pertains to traffic laws & enforcement.

BTW- AR, Linky no work!

Shocked to think that this kind of thing can happen here.

They are the unofficial Alberta Provincial Police. They do traffic enforcement on highways, they do VIP protection, prisoner transfer and a few other duties.
