It appears that someone needs to teach these kids that politics is both an ugly and dirty game so you might as well stay at home if you cannot take a little mudslinging. Granted, I dislike the ad because its irreverent tone takes away from its message. Yet I must say that that Justin is in over his head when he needs a bunch of ten-year-olds to defend him.

Mudslinging is by choice, it's not part of 'the game'. Just like implying Justin Trudeau solicited the help of these children was a choice.

Attack ads and mudslinging are used because they work... if more people decided to show politicians that they don't, they would stop. More outrage over the ads might help too.

That dumb ad continues to come back and bite Harper. I'm sure the Conservatives will just double-down though. It's worked before. As Raydan says, attack ads work. Except when they don't.

Interesting to see how an attack ad on Trudeau has been judo-flipped into an attack on Harper as mean bully.

Ding ding ding ding! We have a winner. As much as we all bitch and moan about attack ads, they do work. And, of course, we all get frustrated when it's against a politician you personally like or support, but, of course, we all enjoy those "OOH BURN!" when an attack ad goes against somebody who you politically disagree with.

I don't think attack ads work...any more. We used to not have attack ads in Canada and we laughed at how childish American political attack ads were. Then attack ads started to creep into Canada. We reacted to them. They influenced us. But I think they've run their course. I think the general reaction to the CPC's latest attack ads is pretty much a collective "enough is enough, time to grow up".

But the point the kids make is important. Our government/education system has made it a priority to address bullying as a serious social problem. Our leaders make piss-poor examples of themselves when they can't live up to standards that are pretty much engrained in our elementary school-aged children.

Coming from you, the anti-Harper guy, your opinion means little. You won't find many Liberals that thing attack ads against their guy work, but they'll be the first to tell you that the ads against Harper are effect.

There's so much proof here about the effect of attack ads. 7 years after the Liberals ran attack ads against Stephen Harper, people on this forum still talk about points in those ads. They do work.

The Liberals aren't going to win playing the "nice guy on the desk". They have to fight fire with fire.

Does that also mean that since you're a pro-Harper guy that your opinion means as little?

I think results speak for themselves and the effects will be known during a campaign, not well before one even begins.

To say that attack ads don't work is historically incorrect and is also too early to make such a statement.
