What is this 'vacation' thing of which you speak?

In all seriousness, the only Vacations I get are when I'm unemployed between contracts. Starting tonight, actually!

This is largely because we are next door to the States.

Canadian companies and executives are always talking about how we need to be more/as competitive as the USA whenever government starts talking about helping out the little guy with better benefits, protections or pay.

I haven't had a vacation in a year and a half and was really looking forward to going down east this summer, but recent events may put the kibosh on that trip.

Life's too short to pass on any opportunity to go down. 8O

I used to think my employer offered good vacation time.

I don't even get 15 days. :|

True, but things like mortgage payments take precedence over a vacation.

Only if you're responsible :D

Actually, most banks will let you skip a payment, or two depending on your payment schedule, without any harm to your credit. Obviously it shouldn't be a regular thing, but I'm a firm believer that a vacation is an important enough thing that it's worth adding a month or two to your amortization.

I always end up carrying vacation over every year, they only let you carry over a max of five, with department approval at that, and you lose the rest.

This year, I carried over 3 days and also bumped up to 20 days annual entitlement but who's got time for vacation???? They work you to death and taking vacation means everything goes to shit.

Guess I'm not doing as bad as I thought. I get 20 days off each year; 10 vacation, 10 holiday. Though some of our customer agencies' employees can earn 40+ days off if they work enough overtime.

Thanks to the taxpayers of the State of California every year I get...

15 days paid vacation.

10 days sick time.

2 'Professional Development Days' (which I can use however I choose).

2 'Personal Holidays'.

1 day of 'Informal Time Off'.

12 days of 'Personal Leave' time.

And there's also eleven paid holidays per year.

That's an annual total of 42 days off from work.

Which is utterly absurd.
