I'm disappointed... I thought we'd already have our first white poppy thread by now.

Yeah, but we're probably only a few days, or even hours, away from the first story about some store or school banning poppy sales/display on their premises. It's the new tradition apparently.

I get to wear my medal this year. OK, it's just a "thanks for showing up" medal, but I'm pumped!

(Actually, the Canadian soldiers don't get NATO service medals/bars either--somewhat a bone of contention because most other nations do.) I was working for NATO directly, so I got a service medal for time in a combat zone, or whatever they call it. According to the Canadian theatre SgtMaj, I get to wear it on Remembrance Day and formal occassions. As long as it is not accompanied by a white poppy.

Yeah the CF got right silly with medals after 9/11. We decided to create different medals for Afghanistan and ended up with 3 different ones 2 of which I own. Anyways I say wear it with pride, you earned it for spending time in country.

In Bradford members of the Royal British Legion's bikers are to guard young poppy sellers this year after some of them were verbally and physically abused by members of the public, many of them Asians, in recent years. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article ... ds-newsxml

I shlepped a few boxes around town a couple days ago, for some strange reason no one bothered me about it. ![Angel [angel]](./images/smilies/angel1.gif)

$1: In separate incidents last year yobs also hurled abuse at two Asian girl cadets and two other sellers were sworn at in the city centre.
One young poppy seller had her tin grabbed from her shoulder. To be fair it seems like it's as much a problem with Britain's ghetto scumbag culture as much as is it with Asians/Muslims being jerkoffs, sort of how last year's riots in Totenham featured just as many lowlife whites as it did blacks or Asians. I fail to see much difference between a chav that would rip off a poppy seller from a Muslim thug who would do the same. I'd be more than willing to put all the members from both tribes of equally worthless assholes in front of the same firing squad just to clear up both problems simultaneously.
