Living in the Czech/Slovak borde region, saw plenty of gypsies and the troubles associated with that group. The situation is half piteous and half infuriating...

A reporter/editor tried to speak with the family and was "attacked with iron rods..."

My ex worked with gypsies in the Czech Republic and had equal parts optimism and pessimism for that group.
I stepped in to stop some drunken Czechs picking on a gypsy on the pub street in my city there, then a few days later he thanked me at a tram stop and his friend tried to sell me stolen goods...

My Romanian friends compare the Roma to cockroaches and they speak of them in terms that would not doubt be highly offensive to some of the sensitive types on the forum. But when you hear of the crimes these people commit and then when you meet some of the families who've been victimized and brutalized by Roma you tend to lose any lingering feelings of sympathy or tolerance.
