Some ugly pictures here.

http://www.qr77.com/News/Local/Story.aspx?ID=1717764

That's sitting right in between 2 Resorts that get their water from the lake, this is their second spill in 3 years to deal with. Another thing they aren't mentioning is that down stream from the dam, about an hour as the water flows is a water treatment plant at Innisfail that supply's water to said town and every town south to Crossfield, just north of Calgary.

On a normal day the dam releases water from the bottom of the lake through tunnels, with all the high flow advisorys I'm not sure how lucky we'll be, because that goes over the top of the dam if they have to dump water.

Oh, bravo! What are the odds that the federal NDP and our fuckfaced anti-Alberta national media won't make all of us out here look like a bunch of assholes over this one? Way to go, guys, with your apparently crappy monitoring system and shut-off valves.

Send that pipeline south or east. We don't need that crap.

We took a drive out there Monday and it was a beehive of activity.

This has all been set up at the mouth of Glennifer Lake, we usually come to this spot to watch the fireworks from the 2 resorts there. The water level in the dam is down about 20 or 30 feet waiting to catch the run off from the mountains.

The ERCB and Alberta Enviroment fellas don't like mud so they get the best spot right at the gate. Just moving all this in during the rain is an environmental disaster, everything is sitting on rig mates.

This boom is the last line of defense, just a couple of hundred yards from the actual dam. These guys are checking for oil at the same boom.

All the access to the lake is closed so I had to take a bit of a hike to see what's happening in this bay where the oil is. Lot's of trees and drift wood this time of year, I'm not sure how their going to be able to skim with all the sticks,

but they got another small town set up on the other side at that resort's marina ready to clean it up. and a third boom protecting the marina inlet. ( #10 was shot from a mile away, hand held so a bit blurry )

This is a second boom strung across the lake in between the 2 resorts.

So this was my Monday road trip, I was disappointed to see one of our playgrounds looking like that, but I sure can't complain about the response to the spill.
