Yea! More greed! Who cares if the company lost 250 million last year.

Not seeing much support for this.

I think the unions are really out of touch, and if they keep
this current line of strike strike strike, they will lose
whatever public support they had left.

Too many people fly out of the US already, this will only increase it.

Mr_Canada Mr_Canada:
Well I'm glad to know greed is finally seen as a bad thing that isn't a part of our human nature and thus forgiven regardless of it's application. :D

Greed is part of our nature, as is common sense. Apparently, the two don't mix very well.

OTI only opposes working-class "greed," which he defines as any working-man's refusal to hand over livelyhood to the 1% on demand, or to people him in the form of lower prices.

This article states CLEARLY that the workers have been living with MAJOR Concessions they made EIGHT YEARS ago which was supposed to improve AC. Now since that didn't work and the company mismanagment continues, now the workers are supposed to give up even more to pay for those mistakes..

We all know Harper will just legilate them back to work if they strike so whats the big deal?

Why don't they leave AirCanada and go work for the other airlines? :?

Probably because they pay less than AC, even after the concessions they made 8 years ago.

Don't put words in my mouth.

I oppose greed when it's unrealistic and especially when it uses people as pawns.

So workers have been living with concessions, which was better than losing their job and because the company is still losing money, they think they're entitled to more?

It just doesn't make sense.

With the company losing that amount of money, I'd be happy to still have a job with AC let alone asking for more.

By "other airlines" you can only mean WestJet. I doubt WestJet happens to have so many open positions that it can hire the entire workforce of another airline that is several times its size. Besides, WestJet only operates one aircraft type so only the mechs certified on that type would even be employable there. Further, they would lose their seniority, etc.

Oh really???? You didn't oppose Caterpillar's demand for 50% pay cuts during its period highest ever recorded profits. You tried to defend the company on that thread.

And where does it say they want more? These employees have earned less and less in real terms for 10 years, and now theyre being asked to take less again. All the while ACE CEO Robert Milton doubled his base pay to almost $15 Million a year.
From 2005 through 2009, his remuneration exceeded $82.7 Million at AC. But no, the greed is the skilled aviation mechanic who refuses take pay cuts year after year after year.

That's a common fallacy employed by anti-union folks. What a worker deserves is a product of the revenue they generate. The company's profitability isn't a variable. If the company is losing money, it should be shut down. Any worker who'd work for less than their marginal revenue product of labour is a fool. Any union that would give concessions to save employment is foolish. The best advice the union could give would be to quit and look for work at a profitable employer.
