They should though... Call me old school, but I always thought the intention of learning something is to be able to use it for the rest of your life. You can't use "school behaviour" in your work life, and you work more than you go to school. I think school should fit onto the work world, and not the other way around.

Aside from English, math, some geography and history (which I have studied and learned outside of school, so that doesn't really count) I don't remember anything from elementary school.

Uh Huh! How about counting, the alphabet, how to get along with others, social interaction, respect for others... ad nauseum. What you were taught in elementary school, you needed in order to enter junior high school. What you wer taught in junior high school you needed in order to get into senior high school, what you learned in senior high school you needed to enter university....

Counting and the alphabet are included in English and math. As for the last three, been a while since school eh? How to get along? Social interaction? Respect? More like how to avoid people who will kick the shit out of you. How to guard everything you say for fear of being mocked endlessly. And how the teacher always commands respect even though they were mildly retarded. Yeah, I learned that stuff real quick.

No junior high here. I learned more in highschool, but for actual raw knowledge, not skills, not much that I've used.

Oh and Lemmy, if a teacher pulled that kind of shit in my school, kids would flip.

That's something that doesn't happen enough, kids flipping right out at gross injustices perpetrated by the school administrations. And when they do they are suspended.

What shit are you talking about? Failing kids for failing to complete required course assignments? That IS going on at your school. It goes on at every highschool in Ontario.

Asian(Chinese) students study for the exam, which is why they score so high on them. Their classes entail studying only for what will be covered on their exam, and it's merely memorization, not learning(if they find another way to come up with the answer, they''ll be marked wrong). Hell, it's almost Pavlovian conditioning, as there is almost no evaluation and or synthesis.

Here in Taiwan the kids start having exams every six weeks and you have kids in elementary school developing ulcers because they are worried about getting into the right Junior High, so they can get into the right High School and then the right university.

Funny the kids at U of M for the majority did not do as well on there tests as most of the Asians . They still know what it is to work and study .

It didn't in my classes. Either that or I didn't care enough to read the outline cause I knew I wouldn't fail. But I never heard of that happening either.

Not normally they aren't. But there are a few teachers out there who deserve a swift kick to the teeth.

You don't have a Credit Recovery Program at your school? Now THAT is surprising.

If by Credit Recovery you mean repeating the course or taking summer school then yes we did.

Hmmm... this sounds good. Especially since I like taking my time on things. :D

Why in Manitoba but why not in Ontario?

Well, you've been out of highschool, what, three years? So you likely just missed it. I'd bet you just about anything your old highschool has a Credit Recovery Program by now.
