Lefty principle, pandering to lefty views, this guy needs treatment from a sumo chiropractic. Just as a preamble to the regular remedial gene therapy

Hmmm... two sets of complaining parents got it cancelled. Following that logic, four sets of complaining parents should get it back...

lily lily: Kerozine Kerozine: Eh, RoC plays the national anthem and/or sings it in schools? The only other country I know that does that is the US. I would say the ROC does NOT sing the anthem daily in schools. We did, all through elementary and high school.

No offense, but IMHO it's really awkward/creepy (in terms of patriotism) to have the anthem played and/or recited every single day.

I don't think the problem is how often the anthem is sung. The problem is that someone actually has a problem with it.

Here's a couple of different yet completely appropriate anthems they could use with Mr Millett specifically in mind: Fuck ya, fuck ya, F-U-C-K-Y-A! Fuck ya, fuck ya, F-U-C-K-Y-A! I really hate your fuckin' guts, I'd like to kick you in the nuts. Fuck ya, fuck ya, F-U-C-K-Y-A! I really mean it! F-U-C-K-Y-A!and, Well, He fucked and he sucked, He fucked and he sucked, He fucked and he sucked, He fucked and he sucked, He fucked and he sucked, He fucked and he sucked, He fucked and he sucked, He fucked and he sucked, He fucked and he sucked, He fucked and he sucked, Must be mighty fine town-o, TOWN-O! Must be a mighty fine town-o!(Lyrics courtesy McLean & McLean of Glace Bay, Nova Scotia) These songs should be forcibly sung at each and every Green Party meeting from now on.

Many great McLean & McLean memories abound in this great land of ours. Just like Stompin' Tom, except with less songs about potatoes and a heckuva lot more swearing.
Hey, Flipper! C'mere, Flipper.Dead stinking rotten fish for breakfast, Flipper! eh-eh-eh-eh-eh-eh-eh-eh=eh!

It's exactly what one would expect from some bunghole with a cv like his - and, what's wrong with teaching/ingraining kids with a little patriotism - after all, when your fat butt's against the wall, who do you think will step up to the plate to save, cherish, defend it. $1: I don't think the problem is how often the anthem is sung. The problem is that someone actually has a problem with it. Exactly.

RUEZ RUEZ: If it is the mention of God in the anthem then they should do what my teachers did when I was a kid. When it came time to read the bible and say the lords prayer, anyone who didn't want to take part left the room. Why should we accomodate the minority by cancelling the daily anthem, let the pansies sit in the hallway for five minutes. Absolutely not! This is Canada and everyone present at the time our anthem is sung should show their respect and gratitude to the Men & Women who fought for the freedoms that we enjoy and for those who fight today to maintain those freedoms!

I don't sing the anthem to show respect for the military. In fact, I don't usually think of them at all while I'm singing it. I think of Canada. Hear! Hear! The thought that the military is co-opting the anthem is worrisome.

I actually have to agree with Streaker on this one, if the CF is the first thing that comes to mind when the average person thinks of our nation, that is a little alarming. This is mainly because the average Canadian knows very little about our military, I enjoy Canadian patriotism but, you should know what it is that you are actually proud of.

When I was born, my first home was on a military base. I started kindergarten on a military base. My elementary and junior high schooling was completed on military bases. Daily,at assembly in the gymnasium 'O Canada' was sung by all. Each day finished off with 'God Save The Queen' and the Lords Prayer. Virtually every public gathering on the base included a hearty rendition of 'O Canada'. I was in a cadet corp (C.F.B. Shilo, Man) for three years. 'O Canada' was the first order of every meeting and the last order of the evening was 'God Save The Queen'. Every male member of my family, on both sides, right down to me, ( I was deemed 'not suitable), served in the military. I grew up learning that 'we' owe the rights and freedoms we enjoy to the fact that 'our military' 'Stands on guard for thee'! I attend Rememberance Day service every year and proudly sing 'O Canada' while surrounded by members of the military, active and retired. Why I would possibly think of 'The Military' when I sing/hear 'O Canada' escapes me!

You can bet 'next months rent' on that, and 'there ain't no wiggle room' in my opinion either! For the life of me, I fail to understand how anyone could be offended by, or take issue with being 'required' to show a bit of gratitude to a country which has given them so much opportunity and/or almost offers a guarantee to their dreams!
