There is a nub of reason there.
One of the biggest things that bothers me is the dogged defence of bad eggs by the police union.
Sure, we agree that they need support through some sort of group and that, like a lawyer, they deserve spirited defence but sometimes it’s just too much for the public to stand.
From what I understand in Quebec, they have a prevision that members witnessing transgressions of other members can be subject to persecution also. The idea is not to rat on you’re buddy but to call attention when he crossed the line.

What do you think of that idea?

Ratting on a bad cop is not ratting. It's our duty.

The problem is that flies in the face of the "union brotherhood" ideal.
Is it up to individual municipalities to set that "rat or be charged" rule?
.. and of course, none of that applies to the RCMP who are not unionized.

Ok Lily, provide me with evidence that cops get treated differently.

You could read the link I posted on the Ferguson/Varley case.I could give you more examples, most dont get charged because of the blue wall though.
You also have to remember that lots and I mean lots of people have cop scanners and hear every thing the cops say or do.

I'm glad my uncle was chief of police for 20 years in a big Saskatchewan city where I spent a few summers,we got away with all kinds of shite because his daughters were usually with us.

We also got to zip right through the Canada/US border without being checked,it helped him being the chief.

Dont label me as a cop hater either, there's more then one RCMP in my family.

Yeah, but how often is it done.... and what is the general reaction from the other members?

Some put their RCMP hat in plain view in the back window of their private cars so they dont get a ticket.Thats the RCMP ballcap with the insignia on it.
There a prize item if you ever come across one. 8)

Well, maybe the cops out West are a few decades behind what goes on in Ontario. Trying to use influence around here would end up in Police Act charges or criminal charges. Having investigated and charged a few cops I'm believe I'm in a better position to comment on this subject than a few amateur gossip posters.

From what you guys have posted it is all 'this guy did this' and 'I heard cops got away with this' etc.

Obviously there will be a case or three where bad cops are charged but the stuff being posted here is groundless innuendo and is nothing new in the cop-bashing world.

Facts seem to be very thin on the ground and most of these posts are unfounded.

PS I don't have a ballcap and I don't know any cops, family of cops, or friends who are not cops who have police ball caps on their parcel shelves. Are things so backward west of Ontario? I find it hard to believe.

Hey, did you know that if you reverse your pin # at an atm its like dialling 911 and the cops come?

Not really. It's an urban legend but it is as solid as the BS being posted here.

Agreed, these cops face a much stiffer sentence than you would. My father has the subject of a provincial inquiry in the 1970's after a police raid on some bikers went awry, so I too know a bit about how the system works.

Oh it happens Eye,maybe because they dont get charged then you dont hear about it.
The cop hat is not a myth,i've seen it many times.Like I said,I have 2 cousins RCMP,an uncle with over 20 years as police chief, and the first guy I worked with for 4 years was an auxiliary cop.

I'm not making this stuff up,maybe you easterners are a bit more refined then us western rednecks.

When one of our local constables got stopped for drinking coming back from a prisoner exchange he was never charged.
He did get to retire early though and he still drinks like a fish and drives.
Living in a small town you cant hide this shit,it happens.
One of the reasons I would never be a cop,you would be living in a fishbowl as far as your life was concerned.
