If you or I did what the Mountie did without a prescription, the same Mountie would be compelled to take some sort of action against us. Legal or not, blowing a joint in uniform and then broadcasting the fact is a BAD idea.
I'll take that as you recanting that the cop broke the law mixed in with a concession speech.
I prefer Talisker to Gibsons, thanks.

Would you be OK with him popping Paxil in uniform instead of the best treatment available to him, because of the optics?
Of course I would be fine with that. You're not comparing drugs on the same level. What if alcohol made him feel better? Would it be acceptable for him to drink before work, at lunch and after work? Not at all.
Anti-depressants don't leave you impaired like pot or other strong pain medications do. If you're in the state where you need to take medication that leaves you unable to drive or function as normal, you need to take sick leave and stay home to get better.
Nobody seems to mind that this guy smokes dope and jumps behind the wheel of his car to get to and from work.
Assuming that we look at drug impairment in the same light as alcohol impairment when it comes to driving a vehicle, I'm not sure 3 grams over a day would impair you from driving anymore than a glass of wine with supper at a restaurant.

I read my own posts back and I never quite said that but, since you have the good taste to like Talisker, i'll send a bottle on just as soon as I make it over to Skye to pick it up..

I'll assume obtuseness over ignorance that the LCBO hold this stuff in the local store.
In other words.....start pouring.
And unlike the Campbell's, you don't get Dr Pepper to cut it.

That Mountie is getting what he deserves ... not for smoking pot but for allowing himself to be videoed while smoking pot in his Dress Scarlets. If you publically thumb your nose at the organization like that, expect that there will be consequences and suck it up.
Boo-hoo-hoo.
Yeah. If the guy had been caught on video popping a prescribed anti-depressant, he should have been bag hammered too, eh?
No, because he isn't in the business of busting other people that take prescribed anti-depressants. Marijuana smoking is not legal for the vast majority of us and the rest of us mere mortals could be arrested, convicted for doing what he did in his dress uniform. Double standard or what?
I'll say "what". He's not in the business of busting people that use prescribed pot either.

What is Paxil?
Paxil belongs to a class of drugs called selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). Paxil is used to treat major depressive disorder (MDD), obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), panic disorder, social and generalized anxiety disorders, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
Antidepressants can increase the risk of suicidal thinking and behavior in children, adolescents, and young adults. Patients of all ages who are started on antidepressants or are taking a new dose should be watched closely for clinical worsening, suicidality, or unusual behavior.
Paxil may cause the development of potentially life-threatening reactions known as serotonin syndrome or neuroleptic malignant syndrome (NMS) when taken alone or in combination with other drugs. Symptoms may include increase in heart rate and temperature, incoordination, confused mental state, jerking movements, muscle rigidity, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea.
Paxil may cause you to become drowsy or less alert and may affect your judgment. Therefore, driving or operating dangerous machinery or participating in any hazardous activity that requires full mental alertness is not recommended

He's smoking pot, in your face, in his dress scarlet uniform and then publicizing the video. Legal, illegal whatever/. It is in bad taste and it is a dumb publicity stunt. They should take his uniform away for his arrogance (and maybe that's what they did).

The treatment works very well. It keeps me on level, it allows me to concentrate. So it works very well for me.
The RCMP says it's ok with an officer using medical marijuana while on duty
If it really is about the optics as you suggest, this will not take long when the human rights complaint comes forth. If they want to put their image and their stupid war-on-drugs before the health of this guy they're going to look foolish when medicinal marijuana users are explicitly given the right to medicate when and wherever they like.
Thank you very much Gilles Moreau for standing up to the bigots who are ashamed of your medical treatment, and who are more concerned with their image than your health.

You're so ill prepared its amazing.
Antidepressants don't affect you like weed. Period. Many drugs have potential side effects, even cough syrup. The side effects aren't common nor is it normal for people to get high off Paxil.

Dextromethorphan is a nonprescription antitussive which has been gaining in popularity as an abused drug, because of the hallucinogenic, dissociative, and intoxicating effects it produces at high doses. This report describes a series of eight drivers arrested for driving under the influence of the combined effects of dextromethorphan and chlorpheniramine, and a further four drivers under the influence of dextromethorphan alone. In the combined dextromethorphan/chlorpheniramine cases, blood dextromethorphan concentrations ranged from 150 to 1220 ng/mL (n = 8; mean 676 ng/mL, median 670 ng/mL), and chlorpheniramine concentrations ranged from 70 to 270 ng/mL (n = 8; mean 200 ng/mL, median 180 ng/mL). The four cases without chlorpheniramine present had blood dextromethorphan concentrations between 190 and 1000 ng/mL (mean 570 ng/mL, median 545 ng/mL). Some drivers had therapeutic concentrations of other drugs present.
Drivers generally displayed symptoms of central nervous system (CNS) depressant intoxication, and there was gross evidence of impairment in their driving, including weaving, leaving the lane of travel, failing to obey traffic signals, and involvement in collisions. Drug Recognition Expert opinions confirmed that the subjects were under the influence of a drug in the CNS-depressant category.
You're not supposed to drive on cough syrup either.

As Gunnair pointed out, at 3 grams a day, at any given moment this guy is probably as impaired as having 1 glass of wine. But OTI won't get that. To him, one toke of the demon weed and you're FUBAR.

I honestly think that there should (and will be) be some greater level of legalization for pot. It isn't there, yet. Go ahead and light up in your dress uniform and post the video when it comes. Until that happens, chill and use better judgement.
