Thanos Thanos:
I don't hate keyboards. They're a legit instrument that takes talent and they've been a major part of r&r since Ray Manzarek came along. Too many great '80's bands like New Order or Gary Numan used keyboards to the extreme, and I've even got a lot of respect for the way they're used by groups like The Chemical Brothers or Prodigy. I'm not tolerant at all though of the way computer-generated sounds are becoming so dominant. And I especially don't like the way computer-enhanced sounds like autotune are being used to hide weak vocals. Maybe it's because the "songs" that are using these techniques are the typical "love me baby!" and "party! party! party!" themes that are lacking in any sort of meaningful substance. If it was more serious and was aimed at something more than a bunch of vapid ecstasy-dropping Friday night club cretins I'd be able to see some value in it. From what I can tell though it's just typical pop-music pap that means nothing and stands for nothing.
The kids are all right, Thanos. The stuff you're hearing is not the stuff they're listening to. My kids are 10 and 8 and they're into Rihanna and Carly Ray Maybe (Hey, she does say "call me Maybe"!) I don't imagine they'll be into that when they're older.. I sure hope not. Cool music is a great gift from god that helps teenagers suvive puberty with their sanity intact.
And if you're whipping off great rock-n-roll keyboardists, please don't leave out the piano players (Billy Preston, Freddie Mercury, Nicky Hopkins, dude from Supertramp).
Oh yeah, and I quite like Bruno Mars. Sorry, that guy can sing. Sue me.
