Damn! Justin Trudeau had said earlier (a few months back) that he wasn't interested in running for the Liberal leadership. I was at the Canada Day Parade in downtown Montreal with the family on July 1st of this year, and Justin walked by with a baby stroller. Some folks were taking pictures with him, I just said hi. After all, he's only an MP. Had I known then that he'd be running for the Liberal leadership, I would surely have had my picture taken with him. He could potentially become the next Prime Minister of Canada. Not that I support the Liberal Party, but the prospect of missing out on a photoshoot with a potential Prime Minister is unforgiveable.

Thanos Thanos:
I'm actually quite happy that the "youth" vote never really materializes. If it did we'd end up with nothing but NDP governments all the time and we'd be a fiscal basketcase along the lines of Greece or Spain. Seriously, I can't stand the way the Americans do things with the irresponsible anarcho-capitalism and the endless hero-worship of a pack of slimy robber-barons but the counterpoint to that kind of economic behaviour is just as bad.

And yet, the lack of the youth vote down south would help bring in the Republican/Tea party types you so desperately dislike.

A viable alternative to the NDP, like the Liberals, would spare us Mulchair and his ilk.

Yea, the Youth-vote. Much vaunted, like the Iraqi Republican Guard that was going to slice through US and British armoured divisions in GW2.

They can mobilise the 'Youth' to attend G20 (what are we protesting against? Who cares.) or 'Occupy' against a vague notion of bad capitalism. But, try and get them to vote; no fuckin’ chance. They can't get off their lazy texting arses to go out and vote.

I've met quite a few who aren't young but are the same way.

How do we package them up in a tidy box and label them?

Or, do you think all segments of society have 'mankers in the flats' than can be bothered to get off their asses and vote?

I dunno Gunny. I've always voted since I was old enough. My sister was very active in various lefty fringe movements and attended scores of demos and has never voted.

When I was at the G20 I passed the time by chatting to various protesters and the "Who did you vote for?". It always got blank 'you got me' stares. None of them seemed politically active enough to actually vote.

I've had similar discussion with guys at work. They don't vote either.

Besides, it's about as fair for you to take a snapshot of G20 participants you chatted with and label all youth based on that as it is for people to take some of the bad apples police they dealt with at the G20 and label all cops with it.

Fair's fair, eh?

Oh I'm not saying my experiences are scientific Gunny. I'm just saying what my experiences are. It's no different from the demos in the UK. Same shit, different accent. I have found that most 'politically active' mouthpieces don't vote. Accurate to plus or minus 10%, nine out of ten times of the warm fuzzy lefties I've met at demos.

No justice no peace and can we like er, text our votes in?

Came home from scrutineering once and found a dozen kids visiting mine, turned my house into a hotbox.
One dazedly asked me who won.
The guy who wants minimum jail time for possesion and to make it illegal for people your age to fuck each other. By three votes. One, two, three, nine, ten. Too bad you didn't get off your asses. Saw your names on the list.
Didn't do shit. None of them voted next time round, except my daughter the Greenie.

Also why I don't support online votes. Bad enough someone in jail gets to vote, worse some dork clicking LIKE on Facebook should claim to be my equal.
