Difference is, cows are killed in the most humane way possible and used for human consumption.
These horses are used strictly for entertaining people in an archaic event that typically leaves one lying trampled to death on the ground and others with injuries so bad, they're killed.
That being said, and I love my dogs, I find myself ambivalent to the whole exercise. Considering this at least gives horses a purpose whereas without one they would be food or worse
not exist in the 1st place.
So a few die... they die doing something they were born to do. Kinda like gladiators. Frankly, they are beasts it's not like they have a shot at something better anyway.
I used to take my dog mountaineering. He was exposed to some risk, but then so was I, and it was obvious he lived for it. On the other hand, I didn't take him climbing with me where he would obviously not survive - he had to wait at the bottom, howling all the while.
I don't think not existing is worse, you don't exist to make that choice.
Again, I'm more p o'd about the hypocrisy of crying about something you know has a pretty good chance of happening. Would you enter your dog in an event with similar odds that he really isn't that interested in? Say like dog racing, except with land mines?
