We all see Putin on the border ready to order forces to 'steamroller' everything west to the Polish border.

Pardon my edit. I don't think Putin and the Russian propaganda machine can stop at 'fighting the Nazis' at the Dneiper. He's spun up his people and they'll insist on seeing it through.

Besides, once Putin starts a full-on invasion then a war will be on and he'll end up wanting to avenge the inevitable deaths of Russian soldiers by ending Ukraine as an independent country.

I suppose I'm naive in thinking that Putin would 'cure the problem' he's put to his people, and stop once he accomplished it. But they have been painting Ukrainians as the 'Nazi thugs', so he might think it's righteous to bring the whole mess under the wing of Mother Russia. And then the other Baltic states who also have Ethnic Russians 'oppressed' by right wing fascists, because the west sat by and let him take Ukraine.

Every great dictator starts with manufacturing an enemy. Putin has learnt from the best history can offer.

ShepherdsDog ShepherdsDog:
Israel stood up to overwhelming odds....western equipped, led and trained Arab armies holding superior positions and numbers. And before anyone chimes in and shits the line, 'but the Americans were supporting them with weapons', read a fucking history book.

Israel was composed of people who'd survived the Holocaust and who were highly motivated fighters. I think the Israelis would've defeated the Arabs with slings and stones if that was all they had.

The difference is that the Israelis were fighting for their lives. The Ukrainians are fighting for their country but they'll probably live all the same under Russian rule as under their own.

Hopefully we won't have to find out.

Israel, by the way, is VERY Russian. It's essentially a Russian Jewish colony.

Breaking: The radio in Sacramento (KFBK) is reporting a Ukrainian fighter has been shot down near a Ukrainian air force base. They named the city but I didn't catch it.

$1:
Government troops recapture eastern airport

Russian Prime Minister Dimitry Medvedev says Ukraine is 'on the brink of civil war'

Ukrainian armed forces on Tuesday launched a "special operation" against militiamen in the country's Russian speaking east, authorities said, recapturing a military airfield from pro-Moscow separatists.

Gunfire could be heard from the airfield at the town of Kramatorsk after a fighter jet swooped low over the area. Ukrainian troops were seen disembarking from helicopters.

A Reuters correspondent in Kramatorsk saw four military helicopters over the airport. Two of these landed and when troops stepped out and walked across the field, locals manning a barricade shouted "Shame! Go back home!"

Ukraine's acting President Oleksander Turchinov had earlier announced that a military operation was under way to flush pro-Russian separatists out of the government buildings and facilities they have seized in about 10 towns and cities in the east over the last few days.
Ukraine

Turchinov issued a statement saying Ukraine had retaken the airfield in Kramatorsk from pro-Russian militants, while the state security service said an "anti-terrorist" operation was in progress against separatists in the nearby town of Slaviansk.

Russian military were tasked to kill a few hundred people , and then enter troops into Ukraine .

This was told at a briefing a leader of counterintelligence SBU Vitaly Naida .

" The main purpose of commandos and special forces operations in the territory of Ukraine is the maximum destabilization of the situation," - he said.

"Moreover, intercepted talks show - and I'm sorry to hear that - that a country that has declared itself brotherly , has set its goal spetspryznachentsyamy bloodshed on the streets of our cities ," - he said.

" Documented negotiations that suggest that we should kill 100-200 people, and after a half hour on the territory of Ukraine tanks and armored vehicles hit the Russian army ," - he added.

Naida has once again confirmed that the diversion in the eastern provinces in particular commits an 45th Separate Guards Reconnaissance Brigade , stationed in Kubinka , Moscow Region.

" These are the Russian special forces who seized the building of the Parliament and the Council of Ministers of Crimea", - he said.

Naida reminded that these spetspryznachentsi receive commands from GRU officer Igor Strelkova ( callsign Stryelok ) , which " led attempts to capture dezhrbudivel in Odessa , Nikolaev, Kherson and Odessa."

"Moreover, if you look at the website of the Ombudsman, you will find information that this" Stryelok " kidnapped by Chechen citizens during the Chechen campaign and exporting them to Russia ," - he said.

According to Naidu, 45th Special Forces Brigade also participated in the Chechen campaign and occupation of Georgian territory.
