Newfy Newfy:
4. Bring in the army! And do what, shoot them all. As good as that might sound to some, it's not reality. Not many of our units are trained in crowd control these days.

Pretty sure that's what the people who are calling for the army would want. :?

I'm kind of surprised that the brits don't have troops trained for crowd control. Been a few years sense I was in but the M.P.s did training on crowd control. One would figure that the British Military Police units would have similar training. C-M yeah I kind of figure most want them, the military, to at least use tear gas and riot batons.

Yea, I don't even know what our MPs have, nevermind the Brits. And given that their country has an army just over twice the size of ours, I wouldn't imagine they have more than a couple thousand MPs at most. And given I don't think batons or tear gas are standard issue for regular soldiers over there, I don't think it would make much of a difference.

Tear Gas and or CS Gas is not standard issue per say but is used in training. Easy enough to supply to troops who know how to use them. CS comes in a gas, talcum type and solid. Gas for general dispersion such as a smoke grenade, talcum style for direct (think along the lines of a supper soaking water gun, solid is basically burnt and is good for limited dispersal such as a house (smoke shack in basic training is the only place I seen it used.) It, CS gas, is a strong irritant that makes skin burn just like a sun burn, eyes blur and water limiting vision basically all you want to do is get the hell away from it. Very easy to decontaminate just rinse with lots and lots of water.

I know what CS gas is. Stuff didn't bother me much in basic. Haven't seen or heard of the stuff since, tho I imagine the MPs would have some. Not in the British Army, but if such a thing were to occur here in Canada, I don't know how well it would go. No one I know of has had TOATs on a gas grenade, and I doubt they'd just had out 40mm gas grenades to the troops willy nilly, if we even have them. Would have been nice to have overseas.

And my apologies, the Brits have an army 4-6 times our size (total numbers).

The only CS we use is in tablet form for training in the chambers and it is very tightly controlled. If CS was used it would be the police using it. Even in Northern Ireland CS isn't used, just rubber bullets and water cannons. We soldiers often get to volunteer as civ pop over in Northern Ireland to help the PSNI with their riot training prior to the marching season. I've tried my luck against the water cannon and lost spectacularly. It's an excellent non lethal weapon against large crowds. As for soldiers trained for riot control, the infantry used to do it in Northern Ireland but were only trained for this specific theatre. Now adays I don't think anyone is trained to do it as we're too busy with Afghanistan.

And there's nothing like being allowed to throw wooden blocks at the police legally. The safety staff tell us not to aim for their heads deliberately but if you nail them accidentally that's ok. It's amazing how little force it can take to make a policeman's legs wobble, all in the interest of training of course. If they catch you on a charge however they're allowed to use their practice batons ( a plastic tube) to subdue you. I ran!

Ahh, IS training and yearly BDF exercises...fun times. Riots, egging, bombing (as bomber and EOD), breaking and entering, theft, fighting and just general mayhem. Getting caught trying to break into the C.O.'s house and having Mrs CO offer us coffee. Making the sprogs cry on the line. Then afterward putting in a claim for that nasty pair of jeans and ratty shirt that was trashed in the riot. Being on the line getting pelted and then beating the crap out of them when they fuck up and get too close. Frog marching your pal with your baton tapping his nutsack (to maintain positive control of the dissident, of course!) and turning him over to the much tortured MP section...

Ahhh, so much fun.

But your own words are that Texas is not part of the civilized world. We have guns.

I found that smoking cigs kept the CS from bothering me. Walked right through a cloud of it no issue.

Anyone know if someone has come up with a CS/pepper spray mix? That might really get crowds running away.
