Well I bought a couple of 100W equivalent daylight CFL's. In actual daylight the color seems good and nice and bright. Have to wait until tonight for the real test.

Well?

I like them, they give a nice bright light. They seem brighter than the equivalent incandescent. I'm going to buy some more today to put in areas where I want a bit more light. The old CFL's I remember were dim and greenish, but these are great. Guess I can say I've seen the light.

What's the brand?

Phillips. Didn't know that was a consideration. I just grabbed whatever London Drugs was selling.

You have to like that kinda harsh daylight color tho. To me it makes the incandescents seem dreary by comparison, but they do give a softer light. I know that CFL's come in different color tones, but I wanted this one - I like light that approximates daylight.

The only downside to the Phillips(that I have tried anyway)CFLs is the amount of time it takes for them to light up. LD used to sell Sylvania's and they were nice because they would start at approx 75-80% full brightness, these Phillips start far below that, I'd estimate <25% full bright.

I"ve noticed that. But i just popped in a Sylvania and it seemed to take just as long. Also, this is in my bedroom, which I keep very cold, so they'll probably fire up quicker in the summer.

Hmm, maybe there are different types or Sylvania changed their bulbs then. The difference has been very big in my experience.
