War is about protecting the lives of your family at home. Baby killing is all about not accepting resposibility. While I hate to point my weapon at another human if he wants to kill my wife or my neighbours then i have no trouble pulling the trigger, I'll deal with my grief of killing later. I have pointed, I have fired, I love my country.

No matter how you justify it war is killing and I think you will find that a majority of pro-lifers feel that killing is killing regardless. Amazing how easy it is to justify it when you do it but condemn it when others do it eh?

Your simplistic view that pro-choice is simply about giving teenagers a free way out of irresponsibility ignores so many basic issues and supports the fact that yours in nothing less then an emotional argument not based on any facts.

If you don't want to have an abortion don't get one but what you will not do is tell another human being they don't have the right to decide for themselves.

'nuff said.

Really! Don't stick it where it shouldn't be and babies don't result. Our whole society teachs nothing is wrong nothing is right. BS!!! Abstinence works, your way is murder of a life caught in the middle of selfishness. nuff said!!!

.

Unlike a Con I understand people have the freedom to make choices in their life and not to have the govt decide for them.

I agree with the women's right to choose and I am not against abortion however I don't think Morgentaler deserves this award for his work.

Fine. Aside from issues surrounding abortion rights you have every right to have an opinion about who does and does not deserve an OoC just like everybody else.

Thats different then claiming the whole thing is a political ploy with the sole purpose of attempting to emberass Harper isn't it?

How about rape? Situations where a women must decide to end the babies life to undergoe radiation treatment or carry the child to term and die shortly after?

How about failed contraception?

How about the fact that people don't always think straight when hormones are racing.

How about you tone down the rhetoric that our horrible evil society isn't teaching right and wrong just because not everybody agrees with your personal view on abortion. Who says what you consider right and wrong is correct?

I guess when I was asked my political opinions I was upset because it didn't have the option of "somewhere to the right of Attilla The Hun". I'm off this subject, Sarge out!

I covered all that in an earlier post DX. Sorry I'm off this one or I'll be here all night. And my option of making enemies on here is not what I want. I am not going to change my mind nor yours. Sorry and have a good Canada Day!

Jeeze you think everything is about the conservatives... you are obsessive compulsive with this ideation.. get help.... I am sure there is a mental health facility in your area..

You could hear it now if Harper stood to oppose it..."the Conservatives are about taking away the rights of all women".. headlines in the STAR and the lead story on the CBC for the next 6 months.

parrot.. echolalia is a sign of mental illness too.. like I said get your sis to make you an appointment... and while you are there they might be able to deprogram you ;:)

Youdidn't even read the story again, did ya:
$1:
Appointments to the Order of Canada are made independently of government. They are the responsibility of Governor-General Michaëlle Jean, who accepts the recommendations of an independent advisory council that is chaired by Chief Justice Beverley McLachlin.

Kevin Lynch, the Clerk of the Privy Council - the government department that reports to the Prime Minister - is a member of the council. It is not clear whether Mr. Lynch would have advised Prime Minister Stephen Harper about the appointment. But Mr. Harper would have had no veto power.

The Harper government can't be blamed for this, or the medical reactor smear or even the earthquake in China. The absolute worst you can say is it happened on their watch and that's all.

Good luck spinning this one though.

Henry Morgentaler and the Order of Canada

(Dr. Will Johnston, President of Canadian Physicians for Life, issued the following statement today in response to reports that Henry Morgentaler is expected to be named to the Order of Canada.)

Abortion remains the open and running sore of Canadian civic life. There is not, at present, sufficient revulsion of it among women to eradicate it, but it is not credible that the political majority which tolerates and ignores it also wants it to be honoured. And let us be clear – to honour Henry Morgentaler with the Order of Canada would be to honour abortion, for he did nothing else of note.

In fact, he was found guilty of “not holding a valid interview before an abortion, for failing almost completely to gather a case history of his client, for failing to perform the necessary pregnancy test or blood test, for not obtaining pathological examination of the 'tissues' removed and for failing to follow up the state of health of his patients afterward." Not a Nobel prize candidate.

The news that the Order of Canada might be abused in this contentious and partisan way came to me as I was cycling on an idyllic Gulf Island with my daughter. Those thousands of little daughters made into nothing by Henry Morgentaler deserved to live as much as the daughter I love so much. And as our daughter does not deserve to live just because her parents love her, so those many daughters killed by Henry Morgentaler did not deserve to die just because they were, for the moment, not loved enough.

It exhausts my overtaxed powers of indignation to see the Order of Canada miscarried in such a way. The award was meant to be a celebration of good works in which all Canada could wholeheartedly share. A career reviled by millions as spent in the service of death is the wrong subject matter for such an accolade. It will be more than unfortunate if those few entrusted with the privilege of granting our national honours persist, through loud alarms, in such a bitterly divisive mistake.

Rumor has it that the committee which chose to venerate Morgentaler failed to achieve the normally required unanimity and, if so, resorted to overriding the dissent by opting for the brute force of a majority vote. The Canadian system of honours should be a nation-unifying institution, not a focus of strife and a vulnerable target for political manipulation. If there is a sudden enthusiasm for true democracy on the topic of abortion, how about a referendum for all women to decide whether and when to protect the unborn child?

Membership in the Order of Canada can be (and has been) rescinded. In Morgentaler’s case, there would be no other way to reclaim the honour of an Order tainted by his appointment.

But there is a much better alternative. Our love for this country, and our respect for the Order of Canada, leads us to a plea that the committee walk away, while there is still time, from such a notorious decision.

Oh? The Harper govt can't be blamed for it yet just a few hours ago you blamed the entire affair on the Liberals.

See why you are a partisan hack? Despite Morgentallers apparent connection to the NDP and the fact you are know laying the ground work for absolving all blame (whatever blame yopu think can be made) you aren't apologizing for accusing the Liberals of orchestrating the whole affair for political gain eh?

Despite the fact that I don't believe Hurley had anything to apologize for he still did yet we never see you apologizing for what has been proven to be baseless partisan lies do we?

Maybe some people on this board should search the advisory council and who appointed them, then shut up.

Exactly. Actions are done for a purpose, and who stands to benefit from Morgentaler and Buzz Hargrove getting a OOC? Who picked the selection staff? Definately not the NDP.

Hwacker: Very powerfull letter. I'm sure we'll be hearing quite a bit more from the selection committee in the next couple of days.
