There's some good news tonight. The residents of Cache Creek get to go home tomorrow though they will still be under an evactustion alert.

Went to a meeting at the Forest Grove Community Hall today for a meet and greet with the people who are helping to coordinate services during the alert. RCMP, Forestry, EMS, our CRD director and our MLA were all there to explain what each of them was doing and why they were doing it. There is still no time-line on when the alert may be lifted and no real change in the fire situation as far as any of them may affect us. All the closest fires are still days away and each day the crews get more of them under containment. One of the biggest factors is the continuing threat to certain highway access in case a fire should flare up around here. Right not HWY 24 is our only way out as they have closed the backroad to Clearwater due to the fire there. They have stepped up RCMP patrols in the area which all of us were very happy to hear. Supplies are coming in regularly to both our stores and donated supplies continue to come in from other areas. We have basic health and pet care and the ability to obtain necessary prescriptions.

Later in the evening I was talking to a friend who evac'd to Kamloops. She was at a similar meeting today and was told that it could be 10 days to 2 weeks before they are allowed back into their home at the 108.

And so it goes.

Sounds sort like limbo but at least they are trying to keep you informed.

There is good news for some, bad news for others, and so many caught in between and facing uncertainty...

This had been a very emotional and stressful time for so many that are directly and indirectly affected by these fires.

Yes, housewife it is very much like limbo. This would normally be a very busy time for residents doing repairs or upgrades on their homes but none of that is happening as there is no way to get the needed materials in to us and contractors are not available as most have been evacuated. No one is enjoying normal summer activities due to the smoke which continues to abate then re-thicken continually during the day. We are all extremely thankful to still be in our homes as we watch news reports of all those who have been evacuated - at least we have the comfort of our own beds and familiar surroundings.

Those of us who have chosen to stay behind and ride out the alert are reluctant to complain knowing that things could be so much worse but it is tiring and stressful all the same. All normal activity is on hold and there is not enough to keep us busy and our minds off the current circumstances.

Hang in there Mowich. We'll keep sending positive thoughts in your direction.

OMG the smoke over town yesterday! Worked on my minitruck all day outside and woke up today with a sore throat and the little dog was gasping all night like he needed an oxygen mask. Windows were closed to breathe easier.
Cleared up this morning.
Got the seats and cross panel, shifter and 4wd activator back in. Too hot to do more, no way I'm taking it out on the trails, it WILL start a another brush fire!

Thanks, Strutz. I am. We are. It's like being in a science fiction movie at times. One in which a mysterious thick, stinky cloud descends upon a village, all but cutting it off from the outside world and slowly driving the citizens nuts through an imposed state of ennui.

How are things back there, housewife? Is it still raining buckets or has Mother Nature finally cut you a break? Truly hope there is something left to be salvaged.

Be safe, Herbie. That smoke contains a lot of really nasty shit. I really limit the amount of time the dogs are outside now and they don't really seem to mind that too much. I've noticed strange almost docile behavior in some of the birds lately and the deer are acting like domesticated animals. And, I haven't seen my bats in awhile. Their path of departure from the roof vent takes them right in front of my living room window just as twilight is turning to dusk. I miss them.......but my cat misses them more.

Take care, Herbie.
