Thanos Thanos:

Those kids chose the wrong road to go down. And they ran into the wrong dragon to annoy. I hate defending anyone so cold blooded, but this is all on those two dummies. They deliberately chose the wrong thing to do, met someone a lot worse than they were, and paid a horrible price for their bad decision making. Leave Byron Smith alone to his own devices and in a few years he dies unnoticed and the cops go into his house and marvel at his collection of weapons and stockpiled ammunition. Raise his ire and end up in the morgue.

Sorry, but I just can't feel sorry for criminals, not when their own choices lead them to a bad end. They failed at being good citizens of a society long before they encountered Byron Smith.

As much as I want to feel bad for these kids you are right that this is there mistake. I can't help but think that maybe they thought this old man was going to be easy to hurt and maybe they wanted to kill him and then he killed them instead. I guess the sad part is that if they did kill this old man and then steal stuff from him it wouldn't be news and it is only news because they had an epic fail.

Gunnair Gunnair:

Well, his safety was not threatened. His wallet or his flat screen tv maybe, but these kids didn't come in to lay a beating on him.

The courts clearly saw that.

Ah, so do you interview people before or after they break into your house?

You don't know their intentions nor do you know what might have happened had he confronted them without a weapon.

It's too bad that these kids made a stupid mistake and got killed for it. It's also too bad that this guy had to be a little twisted and didn't just shoot them and call the police right away.

No, you don't interview. Don't be silly. No, he didn't confront them without a weapon, don't be silly.

Planning to execute is only a little twisted in your mind?

I don't know how 'twisted' it is...I've never had my house broken into and don't know how I'd feel.

I imagine I'd feel afraid and vengeful.

So how do you know if the people pose a threat? You make it sound easy. Do you yell at the guy and hope he doesn't shoot or stab you?

Anybody breaks into your house is fair game for execution. Got it. You should bring forth a motion to change the law at the your next Conservative meeting. Why bother with mandatory minimum sentences, just allow people to shoot any miscreant (or drunk or confused little old lady) who enters your house. Problem solved.

Wow, your bleeding heart has no bounds.

If you break into my house, expect not to leave on your own power....or in a bag. I don't care why you're in my house. I care that I have a wife and 3 children sleeping.

Little old ladies aren't breaking into basement windows and stealing from homes. Little punks looking to rip off people are the ones doing it and the ones that deserve whatever they get.

I'd love to see your 'hug a thug' mentality when you're standing toe to toe with a guy in your home.

I fully expect you to embrace this person followed by a full chat about income inequality and how a rise in the minimum wage would prevent him from being a deviant piece of shit.

Let me know how it works out for ya.

I will. If the prison you're in gives you e-mail privileges. You might want to do the simple calculus whether protecting your junior Conservative of the year ribbons are really worth life with no possibility of parole for 25 years.

Sure you will, gramps. If someone breaks into my house and gets the beating of a lifetime, I wouldn't see the inside of a jail cell for a second. You don't go to jail for protecting your home from an intruder.

My ribbons aren't quite as important as protecting your daily attire.

Ah, you're taking the dodge approach. And here I thought you were a chevy guy.

A while ago you were defending executing anybody that enters your house uninvited, now you're talking about beating them? What's next, you're going to downgrade to putting them to sleep by reciting Stephen Harper's musings on Canada as a second rate socialist country?

Dodge? Not at all.

Did I dodge anything you said or is that your dementia kicking in?

I have no problem what this guy did nor would I have a problem in my own house. Is that clear enough for ya or do you need big letters?

Get back to the drive-thru....line must be getting big.

Why yes, yes you did. You were defending the ideo of executing anybody that breaks into your house. When I pointed out that you may get your pee pee slapped for that, you changed it to giving them a beating, because you knew you couldn't defend your earlier statement. Or did you just forget what you said? Sniffing too much gasoline?

Making things up Andy.....I've said it three times now....I stand behind what I said. Break into my house and find out.

Do you need it more clear or do you need it in big words for seniors?

Secondly, this was not one of those stories. He set it up to execute these two for a B&E. Not neutralize, as has been pointed out. Not detain... As had been pointed out. Execute.

When they're on the ground with a bullet or two already in them, and he finishes them off? Yeah, sick fuckheads touch themselves as they glad hand that kind of cold blooded execution.

And too bad for them. He set up to kill the next sorry SOB that decided to break into his home and threaten his safety. I just wish he did it more discrete.
