Thanos Thanos:
Rock n roll seems kind of dead right now. It'll come back like it always does but right now it's taking a bad beating from the dubstep idiots and the pop sluts. Kind of all around depressing IMO.

Dig out some tartan, pour a stout, and ditch the misery!

That's not music though. That's just goofy nonsense emanating from a video game.

You're just one of those stubborn old dudes arn't you. Some of the biggest producers of EDM thats electronic dance music to you have their roots in rock, RnB, Gospel etc etc.

I myself was the drummer for a band and we used to do cover songs from Metallica, Bon Jovi, Def Leppard, Firehouse, etc etc.

You can be a rocker and still like Electronica you know, wont make you any less cooler :D

I was actually thinking of them on the way home. Nothing wrong with a little Kraftwerk now and again, but 'edgy' it ain't.

I don't hate keyboards. They're a legit instrument that takes talent and they've been a major part of r&r since Ray Manzarek came along. Too many great '80's bands like New Order or Gary Numan used keyboards to the extreme, and I've even got a lot of respect for the way they're used by groups like The Chemical Brothers or Prodigy. I'm not tolerant at all though of the way computer-generated sounds are becoming so dominant. And I especially don't like the way computer-enhanced sounds like autotune are being used to hide weak vocals. Maybe it's because the "songs" that are using these techniques are the typical "love me baby!" and "party! party! party!" themes that are lacking in any sort of meaningful substance. If it was more serious and was aimed at something more than a bunch of vapid ecstasy-dropping Friday night club cretins I'd be able to see some value in it. From what I can tell though it's just typical pop-music pap that means nothing and stands for nothing.

I'd have to take some LSD, maybe a lot of it, to become more tolerant of this stuff. [drool]

Sigh. Mom's generation might have been right about more things than I wanted to believe at first.

If it was written by Gag-Gag or Rihanna it'd be all about how empowering it is for a girl to let eight guys dump their loads on her face after they've finished pulling a train on her.

Where did it all go so horribly wrong? :|

I blame 80's hair bands.

And Kraftwerk! They did this.

Actually if anyone can tyurn me on to some electronica house tor dubstep that is edgier--like Tool or Floyd is to rock n roll--I'd appreciate it!

Not sure if it's exactly what you're looking for, but this is one of my favorite electronic type bands.

Zipperfish Zipperfish:
Yeah, it's stealing. Making a facetious differentiation between real and intellectual property doesn't change things. As far as the law is concerned, it's theft.

It's not that I'm completely morally outraged by the whole thing. What bugs me more is people trying to ascribe some kind of sanctimonious ideal to explain their behaviour. Although I don't know why that should surprise me. People always use sanctimonious ideals when they are doing something they know is wrong.

Theft in that it denies profit/revenue, absolutely. No argument there.
