Russia Retaliates Against Canadian Sanctions

From Reuters:

Russia announced on Monday that it was barring 13 Canadian officials, lawmakers and public figures from the country in retaliation for sanctions imposed by Canada over Russia's annexation of Crimea.

The Canadians prohibited from entering Russia include aides to Prime Minister Stephen Harper and members of parliament and the head of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress, Paul Grod, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

Good. Was just reading that they didn't think the Europeans had the stones for it. It's time for Britain, France and Germany to step up here. They're the ones that would be in the most danger of Western Europe. Time to forgo making some money, and show Russia what happens if it tries to keep expanding. Dont' always expect the US to do the heavy lifting while the European weasels do business as ususal.

First of all, Russia was about to host the G8. If you think that the Russians don't care what other countries think of them, why did they just spend $50 BILLION on a Winter Olympics?

If Putin cared what the world thought, Russia wouldn't be in Crimea.

As for his $50 billion dump into Sochi...who do you think most of that $50 billion went to? That was Putin shoring up support from Russia's wealthiest.

Very interesting that one of the big projects for Sochi was an expansion of the transportation infrastructure that is currently being used to move materials to Crimea, as well as drastically improving Russia's connection to their holdings in Georgia.

The Russians consider Crimea to be a part of Russia ... have always considered it to be thus because for most of the last half millennium, it has been. They probably wonder why we don't understand this.

We, on the other hand have a moral and contractual agreement to protect the borders of the Ukraine in exchange for their surrendering their nuclear weapons.

This place is almost as bad as the Muddle East.

It appears that The only heavy lifting the US will be doing is in the Whitehouse bathroom.
