in a just world, with the first two cases, accidents happen in general population and with the last category, we need people to clean the streets..... even during heavy traffic...outside of bars.....that have poorly lit streets.

I'd legalize narcotics possession, I'd execute murderers, and I would only incarcerate people for property offences if they were habitual offenders. You don't think that'd reduce the number of inmates?

Funny thing is that we seem to agree on most of your points. Just not on the hang em high part and disagreeing on the forced work for prisoners. I have stated my feelings about rehab etc.

I wouldn't FORCE work on them, but I'd make it clear that the food they eat and the clothes they wear and the electricity they use comes with a bill at the end of the month, same as it is for folks on the outside. If they don't want to pay the electric bill, no internet. If they don't want to pay the cafeteria bill, no food. And if they do work, maybe they'd leave prison with some money in their pockets.

Turns out it costs over 200,000 a year to keep a man in max security, and over 300,000 a year to keep a woman there. No way prisoners working will make much of a dent in this figure. I think prisoners should work, and I understand they do. They're not paid a regular wage tho, just a token amount. You want to pay them more and then deduct it again, comes to the same thing.
