and don't expect anyone else to kowtow to your religious practices. Don't complain about ham sandwiches in the workplace, ceramic or stuffed porcine figurines on a co workers work desk, deface bronze statues that are centuries old, depicting legends of a giant boar or riot and threaten to murder those who make caricatures of your 'prophet' and or express a dislike of Islam in boring literature. Freedom of religion is a concept that they need to grasp. Their religious/cultural prohibitions are not our religious/cultural prohibitions.

I agree andy. All our laws should apply to everybody in Canada, Muslims, Sikhs and Aboriginals/Natives included.

Enough of the bullshit social engineering and catering to 'special interest' groups.

If immigrants don't like it, we need leaders that have the stones to point the way back to which ever third-world shit hole that accommodates medieval practices these people desire to be in.

One of the basic principles that makes us Candians is Freedom of Religion. Sorry if that's inconvenient for you.

Who's stopping them? Pray away but follow our laws.

They do, mostly. We are not talking about Laws here. Customs are not Laws, neither is it the Law for children to attend certain Classes or wear certain clothes(a few exceptions to this).

One problem with the early days of our Constitution and how it was written was they didn't 'foresee' the problems that arise today.

Freedom of religion, yes but when that religion, whatever it may be, combines both laws and religion and the arrogance of moving to another country expecting to do whatever you want....you have a problem. If that's 'inconvenient' to me and others so much that it affects my government or way of life, then I expect something to be done.

Not at all "well said". Typical xenophobic BS that's been said for centuries about everyone from the Irish to the Italians and now to Muslims and Indians.

Funny how you name those specific groups....I sure didn't. Your usage of the word 'xenophobic' is disturbing and unwarranted.

See Sand, and no disrespect meant, people like you are a part of the problem.

‘Accommodation’ should not mean that we allow millions of people to opt out of the Canadian mainstream and tell us that their kids won’t take part in specific things for example.

These demands grow louder and more insistent because people like you, well-meaning people with the best intentions, see no problem with rolling over on our standards and laws so we can proclaim how diverse we are. I'm not even going to start on Muslims/Sikhs etc views on gays, honour killings, the place of women in society....

And it's not just those from the Arab world or the Indian sub-continent doing this stuff.

It’s time we pushed back on this silliness.

If they don’t want their kids educated with our kids, or think that knives are ok in legislatures, ride motor bikes without helmets, no pictures of faces on ID, dress their women in Bhurkas etc well that makes me think that becoming Canadians isn’t high on these immigrants priority list.

We need to discuss these issues. Calling anybody who dares have a contrary opinion a xenophobe etc, well it's just the tired old multi-cult comeback and it rings hollow.

People, Canadians, have a right to express concern about the incessant demands for this one-way ‘tolerance’ that we are supposed to show to openly intolerant immigrants.

Yep, look at how many people have emigrated to Canada from these countries.

There are a million Muslims in Canada according to the 2008 Census.

http://life.nationalpost.com/2011/01/31 ... ars-study/

According to the 2001 census, 300,000 Sikhs were in Canada 10 years ago. I think there maybe a few more Sikhs now.

I feel that millions is an appropriate estimation. As in more than one million.

Did you not know this stuff Sand? But you diss those who dare speak out and question our immigration policies?

Come on mate, do your research. Come back with an educated opinion. Don't just call us xenophobes or do the 'fail' thing. That's very high school and doesn't advance the debate.

Certainly a millioin muslims and Sikhs in Canada, and they seem to come up most often around this stuff. And with taking in 250,000 immigrants every year, not long before it does become millions. And no, it's not millions asking for special exemptions, its a small number, time after time. Often we give in before there even is a protest - Sikhs being allowed to not wear helmets on motorcycles in BC for instance - why is it safe for them to ride around with a rag wrapped around their head but not me? And that's the thing, the more we accommodate the bullshit, the more of them will want it and the more of it they'll want. Then we'll have separate Muslim schools, separate Sikh schools, etc.

When you emigrate to Canada, realize you're joining a different culture. Make an effort to fit in instead of always wanting to be spatial. If you like the culture you're coming from so much, stay there and enjoy.

Exactly. These people leave their own countries for a reason. We happen to have a very succesfull country here and changing it to more resemble the places that people are leaving seems pretty stupid to me. It's the responsibility of the immigrants to adapt to the country they came to.

The other thing Unsound, is these people come from states that have failed to evolve at the speed we have, now they want to replicate the social conditions that keep these failed states down in their new country of Canada?

We have allowed the encroachment of medieval and theocratic practices into a free country. More fool us.
