Zipperfish Zipperfish:
I was doing some research for a bottle of scotch I bought for a special event. $80. I went online adn lo and behold here is this revewi of the scotch from an American blog site--"A great scotch for under $25."

Meanwhile you got BC gov't financed "research" institutions (where most of the "researchers" don't actually conduct any peer-reveiwed research) advocating that taxes need to raised on alcohol in BC. Apparently mark-ups of several hundred percent aren't cutting the mustard.

Alcohol in Canada (compared to where I'm from) is ridiculously expensive.

Only to come back and pay taxes AND the other thing (I forgot what it's called ) at the border. It'll still be cheaper tho...

Duties. I think you can bring a bottle over the border. If you stay a while you can bring a few back with you.

I think a bottle of Johnnie Walkers Gold sells for about $50 here in Costco. Mind you I don't think alcohol seems to affect their driving ability here, as it's already shit.

If you have storage under the rear seats of your truck you can get about 20 bottles over the border. I used to be able to get more when I didn't have smuggle weed killer under the seat too. Fucking McGuinty. Fucking Dandelions.

The Renault 10 was rear-engined with the trunk in the front. Beneath the front bumper was a tray that held the spare. Pop the spare into the trunk and voila. The border guard asks you to open the trunk, so you go to the back and pop it. They call you a smart-ass and make you open the front. They make a point of looking under the spare then send you on your way.
Soon as you're home, slide out that tire tray and bring in the 20-25 bottles you hid in it.
If you're married with children, don't forget the diaper bag. They never look in the diaper bag. If the kids are a little older stuff them full of Hershey's chocolate and don't let them have a drink for half an hour before the border. Sure as shootin they'll be screaming and acting up , give them your best harried smile and they'll take one look and wave you through.

Sorry to disillusion you but the Government markup of hundreds of percent on alcohol is done with the intent of keeping people from drinking to much and then driving, much like raising the price of cigarettes always keeps people from smoking. ROTFL ROTFL ROTFL

Both, as it turns out are just another crock of shit being spoonfed to the masses by this latest incarnation of an Orwellian society, much like impounding cars, giving large fines and having your license supended, without appeal does for drinking driving. [B-o]

I agree. The penalties need to be much harsher. Every over the limit impaired charge should also come with an automatic willful criminal negligence charge. Upon conviction, the impaired driver gets to do some real time.
I'll give ya this much though FOG, until gov'ts quit looking at impaired driving charges as a revenue source and start taking it as serious as it actually is, there will be very little in the way of disincentive for the habitual drunk drivers.

Anything over .1 should carry an automatic jail sentence. The area between .08 and 0.1 should be a combination of sentencing, fines, and community service. However, I agree that everyone charged should be allowed an accurate test, not just be the recipient of someone's discretion. Harsher penalties yes, but only after indisputable medical/scientific evidence verifies it..

I agree. I may have have come off a little pro-whattheBCgovisdoing near the beginning of the thread but that's got more to do with, well, there hasn't been a machine invented yet that can measure how little sympathy I have for impaired drivers that get busted. However, on the spot suspensions should only be for 24-48 hrs and anything beyond that must come from due process, not one person's judgement.
For example, I'd be a horrible person to give that kind of power to considering my past history with a drunk driver

EDIT* Heck, I even took my dad's car away from him when he got a 1 yr licence suspension for impaired when he was in his 70's. Fucker had been doing it for years
