Let time do its job and kill the majority of the separatists. It's very well known in Quebec that 18-30s don't identify themselves with this idiotic ideology.

BartSimpson BartSimpson:
Okay, so tell me what you folks propose to satisfy the separatists and everyone else so you all live in peace?

Because, point of fact, what you're doing is obviously not working for some people.

Get rid of the monarchy!

...sorry EB.

Seriously, get rid of the separatists (well at least the ones that seem to need to resort to violence to get their point across), and while we're at it, the street gangs too.

I think once Betty goes it might be time to rid ourselves of that stuff ray.

Don't forget I'm half-Irish!

I like the tradition etc. Maybe we can find a good Canadian compromise.

I'm all for tradition, EB, keeps us close to our roots.
But I seriously question this Canadian/British Monarchy.

I don't think that's the reason, EB.
Guess I've been outside Québec too long to think like that.
I've got Scottish blood in me and the part of France where my ancestors come from was settled by the celts way back when.

I'm just not the typical Québecer.

Was the Monarchy a slap in the face for French Canadians, is it not important anymore, or am I way off the track with this? :?

The problem is that you (Canadians) won't do this. You endeavour to tolerate, mollify, coddle, and appease people who are singulary and irrationally focused on what they want.

Bear in mind, I'm the last person to support Quebeck separatism so the solution I'd like to see pursued is to see Canada embrace a single language and, by extension, a single culture.

See, part of the problem is not just linguistic, but cultural. The Quebeckers more closely identify with French culture than UK culture, and for obvious reasons. Were they to speak English it would go a long way to assimilating them into the broader Canadian culture.

But that won't happen.

And the friction that currently exists (witness this topic) can't go on indefinitely.

mayoría de los estadounidenses se habla español, tarde o temprano.

Sometimes it is preferable for one to take care of his own backyard 1st before giving out advice to everyone else. :D

lol wut ?

Trust me when I say that Quebec culture is just as "americanized" as RoC is. As much as the separatists want to deny it, it's more apparent each passing day. Quebec pretty much only have language in common with France.

It's a different slant!

Scots are ok with the Windsors as there is a lot of Jock blood in the Crown.

I take it your crowd is from Brittany? Normans and all that.

I dunno mate. Personally I see a lot of movement in Canada to eradicate the Brit links by stealth, that bothers me.

We seem more interested in who got off the boat last week than who our ancestors are and those stories of the people who played a large part in building Canada.

It's like the UEL's. Have we forgotten the contribution loyal Americans made to our nation? It would appear so.

If you are Quebecois or First Nations, well we have government programs that ensure we all know how important you are to Canada.

I don't see the same with our English/Welsh/Irish/Scottish/UEL heritage. Especially our Welsh and English Canadians, and those pesky Yanks who fought for the mad King.

I always gravitate to things I think are not quite fair. I like to be a voice in the wilderness.

On your struggles with the monarchy....I dunno mate!

So the solution is fairness and tolerance.

Simple enough, I'm in. :D

It's what's going on in my own backyard that has me worried for you.
