From experience I can tell you that "slapping" some sort of coating on a Lexan windscreen would be unacceptable. It changes the properties and can weaken it, to which the aviation industry frowns upon.

I believe that, time for some innovation in the industry maybe. New super duper awesomeola windshields

You can't change the laws of physics. In order for the windshield to block laser light of a specific frequency, it must have a coating that blocks all light at that frequency. Lasers come in nearly every colour now; reg, green blue, purple, infrared, ultraviolet, and x-ray.

So, you'd have to have a coating that basically blocks every frequency of light. Try to fly your RC choppers like that.

Seriously, why do you assume people who build aircraft are stupid? If they could do it, it would already be done.

I'm going with the flogging idea. Makes a great deterrent. Needs to be used more often, preferably on 'taggers' as well.

Sorry just not true ( not the laser frequency stuff, that's bang on obviously), MANY things can be done but simply wont for financial reasons, just don't say it cant be done, one time we "couldnt" send someone to the moon. Also i did not state that they were stupid I suggested we should come up with something that is new and works, not for the stupid tard civi's with laser pointers but for hmm i dunno maybe a terrorists with a laser pointer????

Just an honest question, why would a one way mirror not work, like in cop stations? Does it let lasers pass through? or would that "coating" take away 5 percent of vis?

Read that first sentence again.

"You can't change the laws of physics." Sending a man to the moon is entirely due to the laws of physics. Blocking light is still blocking light.

Stick to RC......

sorry already started flight school, watch out!!!

Somehow I doubt it but just in case tell them you don't need to learn how to land.

True, but you can always ignore them.

So I have solved this issue

active lcd shutter glasses or 4 inch single view screen, camera feed into glasses, infrared or better yet heat cam which isnt susceptible to lasers, Problem solved. Where do I pickup my Nobel Prize.

Just adding my 2 cents. I don't know about the laws in Canada but I do know quite a bit about them here in the UK, and yes I do work with helicopters of the military kind. My job means I work closely with our pilots. Anyway, over here it is illegal for any high power light to be shined at helicopters not just lasers. There have been several court cases here involving people shining high power "Dragon" lights or lasers at aircraft. We've had a few ourselves, usually farmers who don't like us doing low flying excercises.

and in all these cases did the plane crash? or was the end result that nothing actually happened to any of the aircraft?

I've seen some of that RAF stuff on the net...I'm surprised the farmers don't just throw rocks at you guys when you fly by.

Well, I can't speak for the RAF as I'm Army but there are quite tight restrictions in the UK on how low you can fly and where. It's funny when you read the complaint reports sometimes though, especially when the complainant suddenly becomes an expert at the altitude the aircraft were flying at. I've been working with helicopters for 10 years and I can't say from looking what height a helicopter is at especially at night.

Thankfully, no but that doesn't make it any less dangerous. Our helicopter pilots fly with Night Vision Systems which amplify light. If light was shined directly into their NVS they would most likely be blinded. Luckily nothing that serious has happened yet.

Here's one example. They're not RAF Apache though, they're Army, bloody press. And 10ft I think not!
