EyeBrock EyeBrock: PA9,
They are just trying to showcase Canada to a very captive press. Those covering the G20 will be working in and out of very secure areas. They won't be wandering off discovering Canada while Obama et al are within the security framework of the conference.
What do you think they should have done at this locale with 5000 media guys working out of it?
As I've said, the government are in a no-win scenario here. If they had gone cheap they would have been pilloried for missing an opportunity.
It's easy to find fault in the petty details, anybody can do that. Thinking about the big picture and trying to look at the G20 constructively takes a little more thought. Show case us by making a fake lake.. come now EyeBrock.. its like the fake ads for tourism.. when you get there its not quite the same.. but hey guess misleading the world works for the mileading tories

Hey, it's better than a blow-up moose for the 5000 members of the worlds press who won't be venturing out of Toronto. As Boots said, it's the cost of being at the top table.

Yup, If they decided not to host and foot the bill, people would be howling how bad it looks for Canada on the global scale for not hosting it.

What did that two billion get us? Has it reduced gun crime? Are you safer from your local hunter? Here's a news flash, criminals aren't registering their firearms.

I'll feel a lot safer with the Fake Lake I guess. While we're looking at numbers.. Anyone know how this works? $1: Chief Blair said $82-million will be spent on salaries for police officers, including 3,500 Toronto Police officers, 1,600 officers from across Canada and 900 Toronto Police civilian employees. The remaining $40-million will be spent on costs like equipment, vehicles and clothing. 82,000,000 divide by 6000 officers, divide by 4 days = $3416 per officer per day.

That "fake lake" cost $57,000 not two billion. When you host a G8/G20 summit you have to provide the security for leaders. Any other questions?

Previous G20 Conferences:
2009 – United States – $12.2 million 2009 – United Kingdom – $28.6 million
Over a billion dollars worth of questions remaining.

Over a billion dollars worth of questions remaining. So why are we focusing on a lake?

Yeah, $60K is nothing, shouldn't even concern us.

You can focus on the best damn fake lake you can build. My point was that a billion dollars is being spent over a few days, and in perspective, 10 years of a long gun registry for the same price isn't a bad deal at all.

No. One fuck up does not the other a good deal make. Both are gross misuses of public money.
