In all fairness, this could have happened anywhere else in Canada and the comments on this thread would have been pretty much the same. But yes, Quebec is very protective of its culture. :)

The only difference is probably that there has already been a ''Reasonable Accomodation'' debate in the province.

To some extent, sure, probably a good thing. Meaning there needs to be respect to those standards already established, that of the adoptive country in this instance. There are only so many accommodations that can be tolerated and after that, it should up to others to adapt.

I guess she was "in the middle".

She had a "fair" understanding of french but not enough for the government so they told her to follow a course.

I'm not working in the domain. I only know that you have to have a "good french" to be accepted here as a immigrant. But that critera is quite WIDE (from what I hear) (i.e. you can say "Bonjour, je m'appelle Sophie et je cherche un emploi" and that's enough)..

I dont buy that 'teachers need to see faces' nonsense (which is not a "law" by the way). Fuck, you can take the course online or with your face to the wall so its obviously a bullshit excuse.

Some people just dont like muslims and will cheer on anything that makes their life here difficult. If the story was "Muslim woman struck by drunk driver" the same people on this forum would still be cheering and posting that she should go back to Egypt if she doesnt like getting run over.

You know it, I know it.

I dont know why people keep posting these stories here, we all know exactly what the response is going to be. Next topic.

You have to have this language knowledge before you are accepted as an immigrant. She can't be already in the country as an immigrant, but still be denied immigration status if she doesn't learn French properly. So WTF is she doing here?

Agree. But if she's already here as family class, I doubt if they're going to send her back if she doesn't learn adequate French. Makes no sense.

The moment you land with a family class visa, you are PR, as far as I know... So why is she taking that class?
All I can imagine, is that her hubby is there on a work-visa, they are going through the Provincial Nominee program to get PR status, and both have to do French.

From what I saw on the news last night, they offered her to take the course online and she refused.

DerbyX DerbyX:

Far from being the people trying to force islam on the world they more then others actually make an effort to make laws (in their countries) that accommodate different beliefs.

That cannot be said about christianity.

That must explain the many churches and synagoges I seen in Saudi Arabia and a few other Islamic countries and how I never see anything other than Christian churches in those evil Christian nations.

Derby, without a doubt that is the most uninformed post you have ever contributed to this site.

Accomodation ?

Things like the Jizya, extra taxes for not being Muslim.

Dhimmi laws, which forbid testifying against Muslims, and being
prohibited from carrying arms.

And of course, Sharia law, giving equal rights to everyone... right :)

Someone hack Derby's account ?

He's not normally this stupid. :)

I find that this is one subject that he is passionate about, due to his severe dislike of Christianity, and it leads him to make dumb posts. This one in particular just made me laugh as it was obviously written by someone with no exposure to an Islamic country, or understanding of their rules and laws.

I might add that one can live in Dubai and feel like he is treated reasonably, until he gets into an accident with a citizen. He would automatically be found guilty with no recourse to appeal. Dubai citizens are entitled to free education including university, you would not be.

The catch is, that a non-muslim could NEVER become a citizen in the UAE. That is the accomodation you get in Islamic countries.

I work with an Iraqi christian. He went to church just fine. The point I'm trying to make is that in places like Indonesia or Malaysia they don't enforce islamic religious law on people that aren't muslim. That is why drinking alcohol is legal for non-muslims.
