MacDonaill MacDonaill:
Wow. There are many legitimate criticims to be made about P.E.T. (as with ANY world leader) but most of you are simply proving yourselves to be nothing but windbags and broken records with such poignant critiques as 'asshole' and 'idiot'.

One thing Trudeau was not was an idiot. You might not agree with everything he did, but the fact remains that he was one of the most educated and intelligent people this country has ever produced, the only world-class PM we have ever had and one of the brightest of the final generation of classically educated renaissance men born and bread on Canadian soil.

Sorry, I didn't realize that there was a "final generation of classically educated renaissance men born and bred on Canadian soil." Where did you find that statement? In the Liberal handbook? One can be highly educated, intelligent, and still act the fool on the world stage. The other phrase you throw out there is "world-class", wasn't that invented by General Motors to describe their cars? If you are so fond of Trudeau and his great works, why do you display an NDP logo? Do you also support his platform of a weak Canadian military, because we can hide under the umbrella of U.S. protection? I don't! I believe in a strong Canada that can stand up to injustice and agression in this world, and protect itself. We are still trying to get over Mr.Trudeau's military policies to this day! He weakened this country.

That's all very nice. You shouldn't pay so much attention to what logos are displayed under my avatar seeing as how I've been trying to get rid of them both for months and nothing I do seems to make them go away.

I am not a member of the Liberal party, and to assume so just because I don't take part in your Trudeau hate-in is only indicative of your grossly oversimplified and puerile perspective on politics and history.

For instance, one can very well disagree with Trudeau's military policies without insulting him. For you, these two obviously bear no distinction.

As for the final generation of classically trained renaissance men, it's a reference to Trudeau's formal Jesuit education. He was among what was basically the final generation of Canadian men, mostly francophones since a Jesuit education is a Catholic one, to receive classic instruction in all the sciences and humanities. Among his contemporaries were other important political figures such as René Lévesque, who despite being the arguable founder of the Quebec separatist movement, was a highly intelligent and educated man. These are the kind of accomplished men who deserve a minimum of respect, especially when they are no longer around to defend themselves.

And out here in the west we gave them/ give their memories a minimum of respect! So what's the problem???

No, he wasn't an idiot, but he was arrogant and elitist as hell.

The irony is that, without Trudeau and the Charter of Rights, we'd likely not have the freedom to log on to the internet and call him a douchebag. Gotta love Section 2.

As a young man he was like many French-Canadians who were against Canada's entry in to the war and furthermore against conscription. These subjects weren't and still aren't undebatable.

The incident you're referring to was indeed immature, but I'm unwilling to believe you never acted immaturely when you were 20. Do you consider the sum total or your life to be that of a 'freakin' idiot' as a result?

They can talk all they want about him being highly educated, that means sweet f-all when my father was laying his life on the line in France, and shed his blood in Holland, to help defeat the greatest evil that mankind has ever seen. An evil that Trudeau shied away from. He conscienciously objected to doing anything against Hitler and his minions. So for all of you that are saying he was a great man, I say he wasn't fit to clean my father's boots!

I understand your criticism of Trudeau for not fighting, really, I do. But how would it have been good for Canada if its future leader had been killed on Juno beach? It's not necessarily a bad thing for our best intellectuals to be kept away from the fighting. My sincerest thanks to your father for his efforts. PDT_Armataz_01_34

That's my point. He wasn't "kept away", it was his decision not to go. It's not like he was home doing important war work, no, he was getting an education for himself, content to let everyone else do his fighting for him. And I appreciate your thanks for my father's sacrifice. Nothing anyone can say will change my opinion of Trudeau, my father was the greater man by far, as was my grandfather before him. True Canadian patriots.
