Perhaps becasue they know it's not the President who pulls the strings in the US.

If that were true then why was it that they hated the USA because Bush was President?

Seems to me, no matter what happens and no matter what the USA may or may not do, some people will hate us simply because of their own prejudices or simply because it is fashionable in some circles to hate the USA.

I know Clinton and the US were fairly well though of back in the day (at least by most people I know anyways).

I think the problem with Bush and his government was mostly that he refused to navigate within internationals channels (like the UN) and preferred to operate essentially unilaterally. He had every right to do so, as that was what many of his constituents wanted, but it didn't endear him to the other 5.7 billion people on Earth. Had Bush been more multi-lateral, he would have been far less disliked than he was.

Obama really hasn't had enough time I think to really change perceptions. I think for him to get people to like the USA again, he needs to do things like Clinton did, engaging the UN and not antagonizing his Old Europe allies.

It's the culture. I guess I do hate Americans.

Still vogue in your part of the banjo village to hold this sentiment huh ?

I bet you've never visited the U.S., you say this despite the fact we have regular members who post here who are American. The obviously joined up here knowing this was a Canadian forum, why do you think they joined ? To troll ?

And these people you hate ?

I know your trying to start a punk rock band, just so you know your not going to have much success when you have to tour the US. with fuck the USA lyrics my angst ridden friend.

I remember saying before the election that I had hope for America if Obama won. I had hope for their policies, their world view, etc. I was almost certain they'd go the way of Canada.

Then Obama won, and he's been trying to fix things...

And I noticed the real issue has never been the government. The issue was never the education, the healthcare, the wars, or the xenophobia...

It's the culture. I guess I do hate Americans.

I dont see how you can hate a nation when you havent lived there for any amount of time.

It's actually kinda easy.

It involves being close-minded and having the same mindless nationalism that he chastises Americans for having.

With good reason, to some degree. Forget American foreign policy, like the nonesense of the Coalition of the Willing. Forget American involvement in a hundred places about the globe. Focus on American treatment of Canada. NAFTA was supposed to create a fair set of rules for our nations to pool our economic resources. When we violate the rules, we pay the fines and abide by the Bilateral Disputes Panel or the WTO. When the USA loses a complaint, they ignore the governing body and carry on. Same with the UN. The Yanks pick and choose which of the obligations they've made under international conveniton that they'll honour.

Whenever their economy bends at all, protectionist fever strikes Congress and all bets are off with their most important trading partner. Whenever energy issues hit the press, they eye our oil and minerals and hydro electricity like a dog eyes a bone. "What the Chinese don't understand is that Canada doesn't control Canadian oil and gas. We do."

John O'Sullivan is alive and well when it comes to Canadian sovereignty over its economy.

Difference between me and an American though is, they hate the world, and I just hate them.

And if I'm called a racist or a bigot over that, damn, I don't mind at all.

Have you ever met an American in your sheltered little world?

How about we just call you stupid, because your post is a great example of stupidity.

I live right next to the border - Who hasn't met Americans?

I have American best friends even. There are a number of (former) Americans in my school.

Not that they are assholes.

They're the fabled "Good Americans" -- Either they got out or they want to.

You're arrogance is amazing. You are everything you accuse Americans of being, you are the "Ugly Canadian".

Language very similar to that used by racists. Just replace 'American' with 'Black'.

Another plastic patriot who thinks that his level of patriotism is measured by his overt anti-Americanism.

Pathetic.
