SprCForr SprCForr:
To provide the other side of the coin:

I've always owned GM products (predominately Chevy's) and always will. I've had no serious failures with any of them. There were some I liked more than others, but over all I was satisifed with all of them. I didn't buy the trendy stuff except a Trans Am, but went with solid options over cup holders and stereo's. The biggest cost I've incurred is buying rubber for my truck, but anyone who owns a dually knows what I'm saying here. I (the qualifier is below ) won't own anything else.

Mrs SprCForr on the other hand isn't brand loyal and will pick a vehicle with cupholders just so and heated seats. Since I owe her a car, heaven knows what will end up parked beside the Impala. Her car, her decision.

Anyone know how to do that subliminal thing? <You want a Camaro SS...you want a...>

Exactly...and one of the reasons I've purchased GMs for the last bit... They are reliable, cheap & easy to maintain....A few months ago there was an article about a Buick taxicab in service in Halifax that had near a million kms on it...

Stratfor has an interesting take on the GM collapse.

Well after hearing the news, my dad, who works for GMAC, basically told me that GMAC has become a government corporation, and thus his job is safe for now, and the cuts will probably be only factory level. That being said, I'm kinda worried about the news.

there are lots of great chefs that make great food, yet they don't know how to run a profitable restaurant.

I don't want to see people out of work for GM's mistakes, but they are, in fact GM's mistakes, and now it's come back to bite them in the bankrupted ass.

No, actually, it's biting me in the ass. You too.

Any tax payer should be pissed about this. Unless they work at GM...

tax payers might want to support unemployed workers that need help, but since when is it a good idea to produce vehicles that no one wants to buy?

This is flat out not true.

GM still sold #1 or 2 in the world for sales.

So you're idea that ' no one wants to buy ' just doesnt cut it.

Try again.

Don't bother. People who say that, along with the "GM makes poor quality products" are usually ones who haven't really driven an American vehicle since they got a bad one a decade or two ago.

Same people who bitch about Vista because they suck at computers.

Isn't that a valid reason to never buy domestic again? Cars are expensive purchases. Once a company's ripped me off on a purchase that represents a significant portion of my yearly salary, that's a grudge I'm likely to hold on to for the rest of my life. The Big 3 pissed off way too many people with their shit to ever be trusted again.

Perhaps it is Lemmy, Lord knows I will never buy another Chrysler,
they couldnt give me one.

But that isnt reason to spout out BS that no one buys GM cars.

So you want to say that you bought a Ford, a GM and a Chrysler,
and they all pissed you off ?

Must be quite a story, lets hear it :)

1978 Dodge Omni. 1986 Ford Bronco II. 1988 Mercury Topaz. 2002 Jeep TJ. Shitboxes and lemons them all.

GM hasn't pissed me off TOO much. I love my 87 Grand National, but it's been an expensive car to maintain. I think I've given the Big 3 enough tries to build me a quality vehicle. As far as I'm concerned, they can all go piss up a rope. I've owned 3 Toyotas since and they've all been SPOTLESS on quality.

I had an '88 Topaz! It lit itself on fire driving to work one day... ...got my lunch out of the back seat, sat in the ditch and watched it burn. The exploding tires were cool.

Mine blew a fuel pump on the 401 in the middle of the night. Later, it blew a computer and left me stranded north of Sudbury, 8 hours from my home. Quite a product.

OMG someone else had an Omni....
if I'd decided to never buy a Chrysler because of one P.O.S. I'd have missed out on my Caravan. Likewise my Saturn if I based all GM on my 2.8L S10 (like Robair, I discovered why it was called a BLAZER). Or my F150 if I compared all of Ford on my 4 cyl. Mercury Econoline.
Or all Toyota on the Corolla wagon I ended up giving away..
