Because children need to eat whenever they are hungry.
An adult can hold his pee till he finds an appropriate place to pee. If he can't, he should be in diapers. That, and the fact that urinating in public is illegal, should say enough.

As an argument, that is not valid. I have been in the situation where 'junior' started squawking, and it does not seem to have had any lasting effects to have made 'him' wait another 5 mins until I got to a place where 'I' could either relax whilst feeding him or get to some hot water to warm up his bottle. As long as no one could 'see' my business' how could it be considered 'urinating in public'? Same argument as breastfeeding. Actually, we have all 'been there'. Needing desperately to whiz and knowing darn well that we can't 'hold on'm for another 5!

The moment you want to compare feeding children with urinating, I think there is no argument. Your comparison is not valid

Brenda Brenda: The moment you want to compare feeding children with urinating, I think there is no argument. Your comparison is not valid It is valid if you only consider the perception angle, B. I used 'whizzing' as a comparison because that is something that women can relate to as well as breastfeeding. It is all in how one perceives each act. Note that in some European countries street urinals are in use. No one seems to take offense while walking by a fellow who is making use of these facilities. But that is the mind-set of Europeans. They aren't near as uptight as North Americans. I personally think that these should be in every city in the world.

I've been to bush parties when I was younger where guys would take a piss off in a corner, that didn't offend me. Is it too much to ask that in a city or public place someone steps into a room or around a corner before they expel their waste?

No one but the one using them can 'see' anything. Sure, everyone 'knows' what is, but no one can see. Same as breastfeeding. By and large, N.A.'s are uptight, and they base theirarguments on 'perception' same as you just did!

They smell and people find them mildly obscene. I guess Europeans are just as uptight as us NA's. FYI Victoria put a few up, so I guess your assumption that North Americans are uptight are based on your own misinformation.

Have you ever seen a woman lift her skirt (or taking down her pants) in the middle of a mall? The reason urinals are in use, is because men will stop pee at every wall they find. It smells like hell (can you imagine what the hallway of your apartment complex would smell like? I do, and I am glad the big cities in at least the European countries I have been to have them.). Urinals are not used by women. If you are taking the perception angle... Peeing and breastfeeding is not the same. Male peeing and female peeing would be. Men can walk around without a shirt, but a woman breastfeeding her kid is offensive...

The population of 'Newly-wed or nearly-dead' is not representative of all of N.A.. How uncommon outdoor urinals are (not) across the continent is! FYI...Edmonton is also doing a trial run of street urinals along Whyte Ave in the summer mos.

The perception of both is the fact that the one witnessing the act feels that it is something that should be done in privacy, while the one 'perpetrating the act' sees nothing wrong with what they are doing. Perception!

I guess we better all stay indoors for the rest of our lifes... Maybe my excistence alone offends some people. You know what? I don't give a damn, basicly. Don't want to see a perfectly legal thing? Don't look.

lily lily: THe law perceives peeing as something that should be done in private and breastfeeding as allowable in public. That's really the only perception that matters.
Anyone who disagrees can turn their perception elsewhere. Could it possibly ever happen? That the world should ever adopt yours and Brendas (and my) views on such matters. God help us all!
