Thanos Thanos:
I'd give more Muslim females refugee status. Conditional of course that they abandon their male relations and repudiate Islam altogether. That would piss the Saudis off to no end, which would just be the best gravy ever.

Other than SA, we aren't rubbing anyone's noses in anything. I can agree that the photo-op with Freeland wasn't needed, but a statement from the PMO would have been appropriate.

That news conference is exactly what I mean by 'rubbing their noses in it'. Freeland with her arm around the girl, the girl wearing a 'Canada' pullover (and bare legs in Winter! 8O ). Total political farce.

It accomplishes nothing, except to embarrass the Saudis and make sure every young Saudi girl is more heavily repressed and never brought on family vacation again.
If we're talking about rubbing SA's nose in it, then good. I give zero fucks what anyone who supports that country thinks.

I agree SA is anywhere near the kind of friend to us as they advertise.

Sticking it to Saudi Arabia is basically the definition of sticking it to mainline extremist islam. Isn't sticking it to Saudi Arabia a good thing?

No. Anyone backed into a corner will come out fighting. Getting SA to change is a good thing, but they have been taking a lot of heat lately. It might have been smarter for us to accept her, without the press conference on her arrival as we've gained a bit of credibility since our twitter eruption that no one backed us up on, followed by SA murdering journalists that everyone condemns.

Saudi Arabia isn't going to attack us, that's suicide for them. They've already fucked the oil market for us. What are they going to do? Stop buying equipment we don't want to sell to them?

I'd rather publicly accept the girl and tell SA to go fist themselves than do it quietly. We shouldn't be hiding the positive things we do.

We did just that when Trudeau announced she was coming to Canada - that was the perfect thumb in your eye for SA, but I think holding a mini-press conference at the airport was cheesy and crass.

I hope, in some Palace in some forsaken corner of that anus of a Kingdom the Crown Prince is raging, knowing he didn't get his way.

Saudi Arabia needs a proper Arab Spring to burn away that oppressive Terrorist Regime.

Unfortunately every single instance of 'Arab Spring' has brought about Islamic fundamentalism movements.

I'd expect SA to be no different.

Tunisia is still a democracy, albeit with difficulties. Nobody expected this to be an easy win. The Arab Spring will take generations to finish. However, tyrants like El-Sisi, Assad and MBS sleep less soundly because of it.

In other words, nothing would really change.
