In the first couple of days after Orlando and the first couple of days after Nice the media claim was "lone loser, involved in drugs/booze, mentally ill, etc). And then a couple of days after that those excuses were washed away and the Islamist option, which was the most likely reason to begin with despite so many efforts to make it otherwise, was firmly established as the real reason. These things that are happening in Germany, France, and Belgium are all occurring in hyper-liberal societies that hyper-liberal partisans have held up as the sterling examples of what high-tax & high-social engineering can accomplish, especially when compared to the benighted United States. Consequently they're kind of lost as to what to do because they can't resort to their usual "it's all society's fault!" accusation, not after they've hoisted European society as the example all others must strive to. Hence their fallback to mental illness as the only other possible cause. Europe is perfect, therefore it's immigration policy of the last half-century is perfect too. That which is perfect can never be blamed and something else must be awry. Think of it as that Star Trek episode where Kirk tricked Nomad into blowing itself up after he clearly showed it to be a deeply flawed and erroneous construct as opposed to the absolute piece of pure perfection that it believed itself to be. The same thing is basically happening to social liberal ideology everywhere, especially in terms of what their immigration beliefs are resulting in. The streams of blood are overflowing the river banks now, and the liberals are being drowned in the flow too, but they simply can't accept that this is happening to them because they've genuinely believed for so very long that what they've created is perfection.
