Bruce you should try being one. I'd never even thought we'd conceive a generation so disinterested in their employment surroundings.
I pay the same wages you'd get starting on the line at GM these days, and know these kids would go to the can and let 10 cars go by with no doors on them because the Boss wasn't right there to call a replacement worker. It would never occur to them to say to a co-worker, "Hey I'm going to the can, cover me."

I might add that the effort expended to teach me how to communicate in office politics lingo was horrendous. I got into trouble at Ontario Hydro and at the time I was living in a Jewish part of town and they treat everyone as community. The community figured out I was having trouble with office politics and set about teaching me how that works. The whole neighbourhood was involved. You have to learn the double speak of bad jobs and bad management decisions at a place like Ontario Hydro - they certainly don't talk openly about mess ups. So that's community. Sometimes it takes a huge effort on one individual and people will do it in a place like the Jewish community.

What is the starting wage? I assume it's decent. I'm surprised that in a small town, or anywhere really, you have to hire incompetent teenagers if you're paying a decent wage. As far as I know, small towns in BC are hurting, decent jobs should not be going wanting. Something doesn't sound right here.
