desertdude desertdude: Why would anyone travel with their guns in the first place unless one was upto no good ? Unless one was on a hunting trip and was carrying stuff like Hunting rifles.
I personally find it quite bizzare feel the need to move around with guns. Begs the question how many in the states walk around with weapons all the time.
Americans and their gun culture, I honestly don't get it. Says the guy from the armed camp of Pakistan. Which one of these anti-gun Paki pacifists is you, eh?

herbie herbie: http://www.vancouversun.com/travel/toting+Americans+busted+border/5141383/story.html $1: Danny Cross, brother-in-law Hugh Barr and their wives were on their way to Alaska to celebrate Cross’s wedding anniversary when they were stopped at the Aldergrove-Huntington border on July 11.
Cross is 64 and from Texas; Barr is 70 and from California. ---- Vancouver lawyer Joel Whysall, who represents the pair, said the men are both retired and have no criminal records.
“These are people who have never been in trouble in their lives and they spent five days in the North Surrey Pre-Trial Centre with hardened criminals and drug addicts,” Whysall said.
“They were completely besides themselves and it took their wives five days to raise bail to get them out.”
The two were charged with a number of offences, including smuggling and possession of loaded, prohibited weapons, which carries a three-year minimum sentence.
“That charge is the major concern,” Whysall said. “It’s one of [Prime Minister Stephen] Harper’s minimum sentencing provisions which was never intended to deal with a situation like this.
“These are not hardened criminals and I’d be surprised if there was some nefarious gun smuggling thing going on here.”
Whysall said having firearms in Texas is a fact of life there.
“It seems they believe they have to have guns to protect their property,” he said. Awwww my heart pumps piss for them. Know the laws of the country you're going to or travelling through. Hell when pot was decrimmed in Canada, do you think I was fucking dumb enough to try and carry some with me when I crossed the border? Uhhh no, because I know it's a big time crime to possess even a couple of joints in the US. Travelling with loaded weapons in Canada and bringing restricted weapons into Canada are crimes pure and simple.

To protect their property? I don't know about that... In TX we do have something called U.S. Doctrine which states if we feel endangered on our property (aka "castle". which includes your car). We have the right to shoot someone off our property... But, you'd think being in another country these things wouldn't apply... I mean it called "U.S. CASTLE DOCTRINE".

I didn't mean they weren't absolutely retarded to cross a border with loaded guns. I meant we're retarded to agree with laws written by people who think because they're elected to office they're more knowledgeable than Judges or lawyers. I mean the law PROVES that a couple old farts in a Winnebago are Hell's Angels smuggling guns to Asian gangs up here. I mean it floats, so it's made of wood and obviously a witch!

BartSimpson BartSimpson: martin14 martin14: Anyone seen Bart Lately ? kidding For the record, save for the rifles I donated to a particular law enforcement outfit up your way all of the guns that ever came into Canada with me are now back in the USA. I do not endorse smuggling, but I do encourage Canadians to insist upon their rights as free people. We do. Guns are just not part of that.

BartSimpson BartSimpson: Why are these kids wearing tallits? Must be a sephardim school and the kids need to make sure they aren't going to get bushwhacked.

Though I suppose if a revolution were to happen it wouldn't matter either way.

Guns are just not part of that. no matter how many times you say it, that doesn't make it true. We are a hunting, traping nation as our roots. Sorry if you don't remember that, the liberals would like you to forget that, but that just isn't true.

However, now that we have shifted from a rural society (80% of Canadians lived in rural areas in 1867) to an urban society (80% of Canadians now live in cities), most Canadians do not see the need for everyone to own guns.

Let any adult who wants to own a hunting gun do so. I don't see why those have to be semi-automatic tho. And being required to have some training seems like a good idea. Which is pretty well how it is in Canada. Hand guns should be restricted to those who show a need for them. Which is how it is in Canada. I would change the law so that target shooting would not be considered a need for a handgun. Don't know why this topic keeps coming up. Canadians mostly seem to have settled this in their minds. Seems it's mostly the US foamers who want to come on this site and convince us we're wrong.
