Who are you trying to kid. The pay sucks compared to what a person could stand to make in the private sector. That's probably why we end up with professional politicians who have never worked an honest day in their life and a bunch of poli sci grads with no idea of how the real world works.

Your average mech. engineer in Calgary starts at 125 to 150 grand a year with the option to buy in to the firm with in the first 5 years.

The pension is pretty good. Plus the expense account.

The pensions are really about the only thing good about the pay. But you need to offer pension packages like that in order to attract people away from the private sector. Why would someone leave a job where they all ready have so many years of pension banked just to have their pension clock start over once they become a MP. It also helps make up for the crap salaries they receive.

I know this is probably contrary to what most people think I but I think we need to offer more. We can pay less but as the saying goes, you get what you pay for.

I'm not disagreeing with you. As I said, I can't believe that people choose to enter political life, it's not worth it. Given the atmosphere, I'm amazed we have the people we do.

I seriously considered it for a while. But then Bush II got elected, and I realized just how stupid the majority of Americans could be. Mixed in with some real nice, really intelligent people.
At least we haven't elected MS Palin yet. That would make a pretty good horror movie:
Sara Palin President of The United States and Commander-In-Chief of The
Strategic Air Command.
Actually the Donald would make for a pretty good movie too.
Any time I see the Donald on TV I'm reminded of the the Chuckie Horror movies. Doesn't Sir Donald Trump look like Chuckie?
