No video, no suspension, no problems for the cop under "investigation".. right.

Looks like citizens now have to carry video cameras around to protect themselves from the police.

The cops said as much - that because there's no video they don't have much evidence to go on. Well except of coure the bruises to the guys face (punched three times). But who you going to beleive, and upstanding cop or some trouble maker who files complaints against the cops?

I think you think that cops are all over protecting idiots like this guy andy. Far from it. When we find them we root them out.

Once there is proof of misconduct cops will be charged.

Don't blame the cops for what happens in court though. Lots of guilty people walk free from court daily. A very small precentage of them will be bent cops.

This particular guy, well I think that the crown should be able to prove any charges laid.

Suspension comes after a charge is laid Martin. Even pieces of shit are entitled to 'reasonable grounds' backed up with evidence prior to a charge. We shouldn't by-pass due process because you don't dig cops.

I'd be all for straight to jail on arrest for lots of people but the courts and the charter disagree. Put the rope away and walk away from that nice 'hanging tree'. Mob rule isn't the way to go.

OK, I'm sure the courts play their role. Including citizens on juries who are reluctant to convict cops, because cops going bad is a scary proposition. And judges who note the cops' previous good character (fair enough) but not the fact the cop was in a position of trust that he broke and should if anything get a stiffer punishment for.

And cops who are reluctant to to go against fellow workers. What I really don't understand are police forces that keep on cops who have been convicted of assault. If it happens again, while he's on duty, that seems to me would make them more liable.

On another note, a BC mountie has bee charged with theft for repeatedly stealing the loose change they kept in a kittie. I don't know if they first tried to talk with him and warn him, plus make him pay it back. If they didn't, to me that would represent an overreaction in the other direction - too harsh.

andy, I'm sorry mate. You know sweet FA about the courts. Jury trials are quite rare and are usually for murders etc. An assault charges before a jury? I'd like to see when the last one was in Canada. Previous good character opens the door for defence or the crown on all and sundry in anybodies life and is only used on TV.

Police Services keep cops who have been convicted of various charges because of employment legislation. It's up to parliament and the provinces to change that legislation. Even cops are entitled to equal treatment in the law.

You should really gen up on this subject before posting further me old mate.
