You don't even know what you're for and against, so how can we?

I arrived late, wasn't going to post this but fuck it. It won't be pretty but here it goes...
Where my ancestors (parents lol) came from are nation states that have seen a fair bit of war, ethnic cleansing, and historical grudge matches. Especially the ones from Eastern Europe.
When the nation decides it's time to go to war, either to defend the land or to add to it, it means everyone goes to war.
All able bodied men willing or not are drafted to fight, women are trained at basic weapons use and basic factory labour, and in essence the whole state is militarized. This is slightly different from Western Europe where there have been semblances of professional armies for 100s of years (one way or another). Differences between civilians and troops and so on.
So what does this have to do with Korea? Well I'm old school. My personal belief is if I'm not willing to go out and fight for a cause, I won't support the war. I certainly wouldn't want to go to Korea and put my life in danger because China can't handle its neighborly business. Not my war. It's selfish? Yes, but in all honesty I don't want to go to Korea and catch a bullet for them. Sorry.
But now..."but sock, we have a professional army that handles this sort of thing", would be a legitimate question.
If I'm not willing to put my flesh on the line, I certainly don't expect my compatriot to do so because I want to see Canada involved in a "noble" cause. I'll only beat the drums of war if I so strongly believe in a cause that I'm willing to fight for it myself…personally.

Sock. I see your point, kinda.
Nobody is asking Canadians to go to war with North Korea are they? We have a very small military and it's highly unlikely that we will deploy to S Korea. We can barely manage a regiment in Afghanistan.
I doubt we will be needing your military services over this one.

I doubt we will be needing your military services over this one. I know. But it's morally difficult for me to cheer on for a war that I'm not going to be affected by while countless others will. This is why I was so disgusted by the American media before the war in Iraq. It's because most of them will sit on their couches watching George Clooney movies about the whole thing, while innocent people, servicemen and women, and countless others will have their lives shattered. I won't cheer for a war if I'm not willing to get my arse off the couch and fight it myself.

A noble sentiment. I don't think anybody will be cheering this war if it happens. If it does happen it will not be good for anyone. If it's averted, lets hope it's a kick up the arse for China.
If China wants to be taken seriously, it needs to sort out this 1950's issue once and for all. If they don't, it will show that they still 'aint ready for primetime.

China doesn't respond to war as fast as western nations do, even when they are ready for it. Historically it's taken some real pushes to get China to enter any conflict. Japan slapped them around left and right, and it took outright invasion for China to respond in the 30s. I doubt China is jumping with joy at the prospect of major instability on its border.

It really depends on the definition of "ours". Their plan is whatever makes China better. This is no brainer.

Forgive me if I think China's long term plans will be at the expense of anywhere that isn't China.
