desertdude desertdude: Again sorry if this sounds out of line and dumb and maybe I should just keep my trap shut Perhaps this is the best, at least on this issue. Look at it this way; Cameron in the region for a couple days, spent his Remembrance Day in South Korea. The schedule could have very easily been rearranged so the he goes to China, lets say tomorrow. Poppy will not be worn tomorrow, no diplomatic incident, nothing to complain about, no demands made to kowtow to the Great Chinese Empire. Easy, isn't it ? On a sidenote, there seemed to be more enthusiasm for the Nov. 11th 11am Remembrance in the UK this year, good for them !

England won't have an easy time with China as a superpower.
This isn't just about poppies and veterans. I bet China simply wanted to send a message to the British that it has an "I don't give a fuck about you attitude". Expect the rhetoric to be ramped up as China increases in power.

Sure they'll became the country number 1, bu it would be as the faith of the Soviet Union. Another question is when do they become and when do they ruin.

desertdude desertdude: But arn't all of you taking this poppy thing way too seriously. Its very honorable what it symbolises but I hardly see anything about the actual thing these poppies are supposed to represent other than a few post by QBC. Rest of the time its mostly squabling over the colour, who did what with them etc etc.
I think the lack of much discusion about poppies here is because it's just such a part of life. For most people we just put the poppy on, watch some documentaries, and go to the ceremony on the 11th. Most of us will take a few moments somewhere in there to think about how lucky we are to live where we live, and to be gratefull to those who fought and died for us. WE'll consider buyinga drink for a veteran, or a current member. Most of us won't but we'll think about it. WE'll say thank you to an old person, whether or not they were ever actually a soldier. We'll think that people who arent wearing a poppy look strange, but we're Canadian so we won't say anything. Unless it's a public figure who got caught on camera without one, then we'll write letters to the editor. It's a big part of this time of year, but for most canadians there no more need to talk about Remembrance Day, thanthere would be to talk about how great hockey is. It's just somethig we know.

Calling her at 3am, telling her you'll get her back for all the dirt she did 20 years ago when you were still married. Reminding her that now you have the money to hire lawyers and you will be taking revenge for the humiliation and stress she put you through back then. Chinese have long memories. They don't seem to forgive and forget.

martin14 martin14: bootlegga bootlegga: is as usual apologizing for the Chinese, this post should get him his 50 yuan Either: The Chinese Foreign Ministry is composed of complete idiots who don't know what a poppy is and what it represents to us, and making the appropriate scheduling changes to visits, making them look stupid, foolish, and not ready for primetime, or They staged this to try and show how they are so powerful in the world, and got told to piss off. You can choose I'll take the second option.

They're more similar to Germany under Bismark following the Franco-Prussian war than Soviet Russia following WW2. China is capitalist nation, with a quasi fascist government, really similar to a corporate board of directors and a CEO who is dependent on the board to stay in power. China will continue to grow indefinitely until they start a dumb war, or unless something truly shocking happens - a black swan event. Russia can no longer truly match Chinese power. They have neither the economy, nor the technological advantage over China, and their greatest asset during past wars, a large population to draw from for warfare doesn't exist anymore.

Can't agree, every state that is keeping by effort will crash. That's the worlds history.

bootlegga bootlegga: BartSimpson BartSimpson: In general, you don't make demands of diplomats and that's not a faux pas on the part of the Chinese, it's a measured move to see if the UK will kowtow to them.
It was a request not a demand, big difference. See the article title if you don't believe me. In diplomatic protocols, such 'requests' are not at all requests. Diplomacy is a culture all its own and if you're not familiar with it then do some study and become familiar with it before erroneously crtiquing both myself and the UK Foreign Office. Here's a good place to start: http://www.amazon.com/Practice-Diplomac ... 164&sr=1-5

There is one thing Russia has in its favor, thousands of nukes whereas China has only a few hundred. Not that anyone wants to start a nuclear war, just sayin'.

China is not even the superpower of Asia. They need to be bitch slapped back into their place. Their military is mostly show, good for oppressing unarmed protesters. If push came to shove they might end up with Iraqi Syndrome...you know, where they go from having the Nth largest army in the world to having the 2nd largest army in China, in 72 hours.

Noone now is doing war by killing others (Despite of terorists, but even they are trying to make psychological war with their acts), the best weapon in our days is a simple economical influence, and Russian lose their victory in it.
