We skipped the last one, we can't skip the next one without a note from Britain. You know the rules.

Canada is obliged, one might say, by tradition and our close bonds to follow along and support the US on it's various military adventures. Like a sidekick or mascot.

We have skipped the Iraq war. We're actually so mingled with the US army there was no way to fully skip the war.

If we skip the next one it could seriously damage the US/Canadian relationship.

They might start making us use passports at the boarder like Mexicans. Wait...

So we clearly can't skip the next one.

Unless... We have a handwritten note from our parent nation, Britain.

"Sorry about Canada not being able to send troops to <insert name of random country here>, we have been keeping him busy here in the Falklands."

Yes, I am serious and yes, I am being funny in a satirical fashion.

What happened to being neutral? Unless it's a NATO war, Canada has no obligations.

If some part of Canada were invaded, wouldn't you want our allies to help?

Just for the record, last time around the US didn't exactly stay neutral. We unofficially sided with the UK and, officially, so did Spain. See, it was Spain that ceded the islands to the UK in the first place and the Spanish were not so keen on the Argies insinuating themselves into a treaty that took place before Argentina existed.

(On a side note, Mexico claims Florida and the Louisiana Purchase territory under the grounds that Spain had no right to sell these things off to France and the US.)

Last time around the US provided basing support and etc. to the UK forces. This time around we've got a President who has a big Kenyan-sourced anti-British chip on his shoulder. Oh, yeah! That's where he got his antipathy to the Brits is from his Kenyan family.

And this whole mess wouldn't be happening right now if Obama hadn't given the Argies the green light to take another go at the Falklands.

Um, Obama's father's family IS from Kenya.

And Obama's grandfather was heinously tortured by the Brits in a Kenyan prison.

Being the anglopfile that I am I have a visceral reaction to things like this. A reiforced Carrier task force visiting th Fawkllin Islands would be in order along with a few war games demonstartion that the "The Yankees as well as the Islanders speak english".

The Treaty of Saragosa was Papal Bullshit. Great Britain was in the Falkilns before Argentina existed. We have a duty to stand by our friends.

I may pretend to be objective with any thing anti(What they word) anglophobe agaings (GB, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, ect) any nation that shares our english heritage. The may noit always be right and we may have some quite discusisions with them); but they are never wrong.

To many Americans and our allies are buried in Europe for me to feel otherwise, DOn't worry I include French Canada in the group.

If one want to claim I'm not being PC on this I don't care.

Our close friends are our friends, it makes me sick that political fortunes allow our governments ts to screw 'em. What we have in common though can last 4 or 8 years.

Any Policiaclly Correct pundits here want to call me a bigot go ahead I consider it an honour.

This is a purely UK and Argentinian affair. It has zero to do with Canada.

EyeBrock EyeBrock:
The chest thumpers have probably never seen a guy burnt to a crisp after an Exocet strike Gunnair.

People forget that nobody wants peace more than those who have seen war.

R=UP

No doubt. I consider myself blessed that the past two generations have not had the 'glory' of fighting a major war.

Gunnair Gunnair:
Wonder if the uber patriots still want to have their military rush out to a shooting war while they watch it on youtube?

The first Gulf War was a bit of a curse, because it falsely taught a generation of kids that war is more like a video game than the harsh reality it really is.

Like I said on page 1, it's real easy to do so from one's Lazyboy. It's whole other ball of wax when the government has the damned nerve to ask you to help.

I wonder if the Brits are smart enough to realize they may not get
that 'unofficial' help this time round ?
