Typically DD accuses all cops with being corrupt which this story is not about........which is off topic. The thread is about being guilty at the discretion of someone with potentially limited experience or being an idiot, before having a chance to defend yourself.

After witnessing 'selective enforcement' of every other law around here, I sure as hell expect the same for this. If you look like you can afford the fines, you're more likely to be run through the wringer.

It's not just the one law--it's all of them. I played in a band in Vancouver for nine years, and at our regular East Coast restaurant we played at, every time someone stood up to dance we had to stop playing--liquor laws. It's illegal to sing in Stanley Park--city bylaw. Or the city councilors in my community passing a law to make themselves exempt from parking tickets. Or prohibitions of a relatively harmless substance like pot. Or requiring country folk to register their long arms. Or making it illegal to smoke in a park, even if there's no one around for 500 feet. Or my buddy who lives on a heritage street who needs a permit to paint his house.
Just a vast accumulation of laws, with more and stricter laws arriving everyday to add to the weight, and every one meaning that taxes will be just that little bit higher, and government incursion into your affairs just a little more personal, and another tiny link is forged in the chains that bind us.

Oh thank you I was beginning to think that the sheeple like Yogi and others like him had total control at CKA now.
I think they are going to find that common folks that go to a friends place to play cards and have drink are going to be left with a bad choice.
The lights come on you ask you wife how long ago was it I had that last beer...am I going to be ok.....loss of car, big fine, loss of job, perhaps even your business. Left with a choice like this how many people are going to try and outrun the cops. I don't like this senario but I can see it happen. Do people give up every social function to appease the MADD zealot's of the country or do they nail the living shit out of the ones they catch that are actually impaired.

What they should do is what I have been doing for years. DON'T DRIVE WHEN YOU HAD A DRINK. Especially when you are out with your spouse, what is easier than either 1 stays SOBER (doesn't mean boring, just SOBER), or call a cab, and get your car the next day, with your spouse, and their car? In addition, I find that one paragraph VERY scary.

BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!

Well there you go again. I call you a follower without thought you call me an asshole. I am talking about the every day Joe that wants to have a social drink. You assume he is an impaired driver that going to kill someone.
I think we are getting dangerously close to serious social unrest one law or tax at a time. More and more avenues for people to relieve the stress in their lives are being eroded and every time you turn around there is some official with a hand out saying pay here.

I agree with you that there are those people who actually are mature enough just to have a social drink, and no more, and then get behind the wheel. But let's be realistic here. When it comes down to it they are in the minority!I don't understand, given the resultant carnage, how anyone could be against any move to keep impaired drivers off the road. Personally, I gave up alcohol many years ago and have yet to see any negative as a result! That's me. I don't try to foist my beliefs about alcohol on others. In fact, Most of my family & acquaintances imbibe. I have beer, coolers and even some Tequila here, so that I might offer a drink or two to a visitor who will be spending several hours here before driving. Less than several hours gets a visitor the offer of coffee or pop etc.

the point I was trying to get across, with posting the newspaper item about the Edmonton cop is.
these police officers whether RCMP or other city or provincial don't believe the laws actually pertain to them.
and also, how blatantly some of them can lie when confronted.would you honestly want to give this man a roadside Breathalyzer and have him start taking people's licenses away and having their cars confiscated. when in his private life, he believes he can drink and drive, and even lie about it to his superiors.
the only protection the general public has against police incompetence and corruption is a good lawyer, a judge and a court but now in British Columbia because of this new law this has been taken away.

This statement applies to everyone who has ever been charged with any crime! I do agree with you that Cops should be held to a higher standard, and in fact, take an oath to that effect. But when it comes right down to it, Cops are human, the same as you or I. 'When the shit hits the fan' such situations bring to mind the old adage 'There are no athiests in foxholes'!

Yogi Yogi: RUEZ RUEZ: Yogi Yogi: As far as 0 Tolerance goes, I'm all for it. If it means 'no rumballs, then so be it. Of course mouthwash will give a + reading if it contains alcohol. Use a different brand. There's lots to choose from. So you're ok with getting a fine and losing your license for three days because you used mouthwash? I"m not. Unless you JUST GARGLED and then jumped into you vehicle, AND immediately got stopped by the Cop who just happened to be waiting around the corner for you... the argument you use is a bunch of malarky! It's not malarky. It's been tested and even after a reasonable amount of time mouthwash can set off a breathalyzer to a point where under the new law a police officer at his discretion can fine you. That's not justice.
