I'd support a Jew who wanted to publically wear the little beanie to work so I'm sort of obligated to do the same here. It's just the headscarf. It's not like she said she wants to wear the full burqa to work. I'd like to think that we have enough perspective to see that this really isn't quite the same as some yokel wanting to wear a ballcap embroidered with the words "Fart Machine" to work.

I think she jumped the gun a bit, as they seemed like they were about to accomodate her. That said, Disney should maybe revise their strict dress code as I don't think it would cause much in the way of lost profits to allow this woman to have a head dress. Hell, it might even make Disney appear a bit more humanitarian.

On the whole, I'm not against anyone wearing a hijab. As I've said in another thread, it ain't a whole lot different than a little ol' lady wearing a headscarf. And while a dress code is a dress code, from a hygiene perspective, I really have no issue with someone wearing a headscarf when serving me food. Reduces the risk of a loose hair falling in it.

I would be interested to know if Disney forbids Jews from wearing thier religous hat, or any other 'religous' items.

(unlikely, I know). Or a devout Sikh man? Hare Krishna? Do they serve pork at this restaurant? How does she feel about that?

How does she feel about that? http://orlando.bizjournals.com/orlando/ ... ily57.html$1: A Broward County resident has sued Walt Disney World, claiming he was discriminated against because his religion prevents him from conforming to the Disney dress code.
Miami Attorney Matt Sarelson filed the suit in Hillsborough County Circuit Court on behalf of Sukhbir Channa. Channa, 24, is a practicing Sikh who wears a turban, a beard and keeps his hair long in accordance with his religious beliefs.
In his suit, Channa says he was hired in October 2005 as a seasonal college musician, which requires parade and atmospheric performances. At the time, he was a student University of South Florida. In his parade performances, Channa says he wore a toy soldier hat to cover his head. In the atmospheric performances, he was initially allowed to wear a red turban in place of the red beret the other musicians wore. However, even after rehearsing for both jobs, the lawsuit claims Channa was removed from the atmospheric position because he lacked the "Disney look."
According to the suit, Channa complained to human resources and was told he was never hired for the atmospheric position and no corrective action was ever taken. The suit also claims he was singled out to perform menial tasks for his supervisor.
Channa was terminated in early 2006 for not having the "Disney look," the suit says, and when he applied to be rehired October 2006, he was denied for the same reason. According to the suit, all of Channa's former co-workers who wanted to be rehired were.
The suit alleges that Disney is violating the Florida Civil Rights Act, and requests damages of at least $1 million and that the court enjoin Disney from discriminating against Sikh employees and prospective employees.
A Disney spokeswoman said the company is reviewing the lawsuit.

$1,000,000 - not bad. I'm guessing Disney has been hit by a few of these suits, and they must have either won them or figure the money they pay out is worth it.

It's NOT mandatory they wear it the other days but it doesn't mean they're forbidden from wearing them by their religion except those times.
