I may be wrong but weren't there laws in Germany passed in the bad old days that made it Illegal for an Aryan woman to have sex with a Jew? Isn't this getting uncomfortably close to the same thing?

It's not illegal to have sex with an Arab/Muslim or whatever. He was convicted for lying about who he was, aka the deception part.

Yeah this case sounds like a shitty one, and it'll probably be overturned. But this isn't exactly racist.

So...let me get this straight. An Arab says he's a Jewish bachelor,

I may have missed it, but got the impression that he didn't state one way or the other what his Ethnic/Heritage was. Seems he just got her hot and bothered, they did it, next day she finds out he's not Jewish, OMG Call 911

From the Guardian article, it says (or is alleged, but whatever, I wasn't there) that he introduced himself as a Jewish bachelor.

"According to the complaint filed by the woman with the Jerusalem district court, the two met in downtown Jerusalem in September 2008 where Kashur, an Arab from East Jerusalem, introduced himself as a Jewish bachelor seeking a serious relationship. The two then had consensual sex in a nearby building before Kashur left."

There MIGHT be a double standard like the article says "Oh if a Jewish guy did this to a Muslim blah blah blah" but I'm not sifting through Israeli court cases.

No, it's just that Jews tend to have a "thing" about relations with non-Jews. It's one of their sensitive spots and this presses that particular button with them.

They really worry about things like this.

Assimilation Nation: Intermarriage in the USA destroying Judaism:

http://hashmonean.com/2007/12/11/assimi ... g-judaism/

There was also some quote from some famous Hollywood type who pushes interracial marriage in his TV shows and he said he'd never tolerate his kids marryng non-Jews. It was a spectacularly hypocritical comment given that his programs extolled the wonders of everyone else having interracial and interfaith marriages.

Ahh, I see what you're saying Bart. The wink threw me off. Anyway, I guess it's a cultural survival thing. I'm not sure if it's a race issue, but rather a cultural/religious issue. Would an Orthodox Arab Jew care if his or her daughter married a Sephardi Orthodox Jew? I wouldn't think so...but then again I'm not Jewish. I don't think it's race, but religion that matters. If Jews marry Christians or Muslims or Hindus or whoever else, it's less likely for said children to be Jewish. I don't know, and with that, I don't believe that Jews butt heads over other Jews over their ethnicity.

I guess a secular example would be Westerners being worried about how people continually have smaller and smaller families that won't replace the currently aging population.

ISRAEL: Nationalist group urges model Bar Refaeli to marry Jewish, dump Leo DiCaprio

$1:
Supermodel Bar Refaeli is one of Israel's most successful "exports." But with fame comes responsibility -- and now an Israeli organization is beseeching Refaeli not to wed Leonardo DiCaprio -- out of a responsibility to future generations.

"It is not by chance that you were born Jewish," wrote Baruch Marzel in a letter he sent Refaeli through her mother (and that promptly appeared in the press). "Your grandmother and her grandmother did not dream that one of their descendants would one day remove the family's future generations from the Jewish people. Assimilation has forever been one of the enemies of the Jewish people."

Marzel, a well-known stalwart among Israel's ultra-nationalists, appealed to Refaeli on behalf of an organization named "Lehava." In Hebrew, this means "flame:; it is also the Hebrew acronym for "Preventing Assimilation in the Holy Land."

The organization, according to its Facebook page (in Hebrew) provides assistance to Jewish girls in relationships with non-Jews, especially Arabs. There are other organizations in Israel that specialize in extricating Jewish women from marriages and other relationships with Arabs. Last month, Yad L'achim held an event for 100 women "rescued from Arab villages."

Israeli Government Ads Warn Against Marrying Non-Jews
Israel has launched an advertising campaign urging Israelis to inform on Jewish friends and relatives abroad who may be in danger of marrying non-Jews.
September 8, 2009 | The Israeli government has launched a television and Internet advertising campaign urging Israelis to inform on Jewish friends and relatives abroad who may be in danger of marrying non-Jews.

The advertisements, employing what the Israeli media described as "scare tactics," are designed to stop assimilation through intermarriage among young Diaspora Jews by encouraging their move to Israel.

The campaign, which cost $800,000, was created in response to reports that half of all Jews outside Israel marry non-Jews. It is just one of several initiatives by the Israeli state and private organizations to try to increase the size of Israel's Jewish population.

According to one ad, voiced over by one of the country's leading news anchors, assimilation is "a strategic national threat," warning: "More than 50 percent of Diaspora youth assimilate and are lost to us."

Adam Keller, of Gush Shalom, an Israeli peace group, said this was a reference both to a general fear in Israel that the Jewish people may one day disappear through assimilation and to a more specific concern that, if it is to survive, Israel must recruit more Jews to its "demographic war" against Palestinians.

The issue of assimilation has been thrust into the limelight by a series of surveys over several years carried out by the Jewish People Policy Planning Institute, a think tank established in Jerusalem in 2002 comprising leading Israeli and Diaspora officials.

The institute's research has shown that Israel is the only country in the world with a significant Jewish population not decreasing in size. The decline elsewhere is ascribed both to low birth rates and to widespread intermarriage.

According to the institute, about half of all Jews in Western Europe and the United States assimilate by intermarrying, while the figure for the former Soviet Jewry is reported to reach 80 percent.

Israel, whose Jewish population of 5.6 million accounts for 41 percent of worldwide Jewry, has obstructed intermarriage between its Jewish and Arab citizens by refusing to recognize such marriages unless they are performed abroad.

The advertising campaign is directed particularly at Jews in the United States and Canada, whose combined 5.7 million Jews constitute the world's largest Jewish population. Most belong to the liberal Reform stream of Judaism that, unlike Orthodoxy, does not oppose intermarriage.

One-third of Jews in the Diaspora are believed to have relatives in Israel.

According to the campaign's organizers, more than 200 Israelis rang a hot line to report names of Jews living abroad after the first TV advertisement was run on Wednesday. Callers left details of e-mail addresses and Facebook and Twitter accounts.

The 30-second clip featured a series of missing-persons posters on street corners, in subways and on telephone boxes showing images of Jewish youths above the word "Lost" in different languages. A voiceover asks anyone who "knows a young Jew living abroad" to call the hot line: "Together, we will strengthen their connection to Israel, so that we don't lose them."

Well it's interesting, that these radicals don't realize that they wouldn't be here if not for Jews intermarrying with Gentiles. The Ashkenazi, the driving force behind the re-establishment of Israel(and the true power holders), have a sizable chunk of European ancestry. It's sort of ironic, that even with the talk of Jewish solidarity, the Ashkenazi Jews often refer to the Sephardi Jews as 'Arabs'(and it's not used in a polite way)

What really seems silly though, is that the children of a Jewish woman, regardless of her spouse's ethnicity, are considered Jews under Jewish law. As long as mom raises them in the tradition of her people, there shouldn't be any concern.

I have relatives(in laws actually) that married Jewish spouses. One couple celebrates both Jewish and Christian holidays and the other couple is very secular..... although she had a mohel perform a bris(brit milah) on their son, which was odd because she doesn't even practise kosher. The former live in Eilat, with her family, who are a mixed Ashkenazi(German) and Sephardi(Algerian) bunch as well. When we first visited them, I was shocked when I was asked if I wanted cheese on my burgers during a bbq.

I mentioned that a few posts back. Not just Jews, but Poles and other Slavs as well. OTOH, there was a whole breeding program for German soldiers making babies with Norwegians - one of the ABBA singers is a result of that. Israel isn't there yet, but man they seem to keep skating close to the line where they are emulating their former victimizers - what with their policy of Lebensraum and all.

Another example of an unhealthy cultural drift. Hear we have people being encouraged to inform on each other for the crime of having a private life. People are are encouraged to report this behavior to the Hebrew version of the GeheimStat Polizei. This to in getting uncomfortably close to a society we fought a war to wipe out.
