Your numbers are wiki-wrong.

The F35 is cheaper than the Tranche-3 Typhoon. $191 million US is rubbish for the F35.

Well, the sources I have given are well respected. Your's don't make any sense.

I've been following the development of this aircraft with interest and I have a working knowledge of the Typhoon program.

Aircraft programs are very political.

The Typhoon’s silly costs vs capability are worth it to the Brits and others. So they paid over market costs, the offsets are huge. Jobs, R+D jobs, technological capacity etc.

Buying US aircraft for the Euros isn’t fiscally or political viable when they can club together and build a half-decent combat aircraft for a bit more than an F35. The costs to them are worth it.

The F35 program is really another hybrid version of the Euro defence consortium’s products. The F35 has a lot of other countries involved in production and development.

Buying the F35 would inevitably lead to jobs in Canada, top quality jobs in cutting edge industries. A better political and military option than the Typhoon by far.

It's pre-election bullshit that they are re-releasing this 'announcement'. Pretty cheezy really.

But Canada has been involved in the F35 program for a few years now.

Actually not

http://www.compositesworld.com/news/f-3 ... ramping-up

Tooling specialist Janicki Industries (Sedro-Woolley, Wash.) will establish a new facility in Utah to support the F-35 program, According to a May 13 announcement by the state Governor’s Office of Economic Development (GOED), Janicki intends to make a $19.5 million capital investment in the plant. Janicki currently employs more than 350 people in Washington State. A decision on a final location for the new Utah facility has not yet been made, but it will add an additional 50 people to the Janicki payroll to help Janicki fulfill its contractual obligations to ATK (Centerville, Utah) and HITCO Carbon Composites (Gardena, Calif.). Based on the capital investment and the number of employees that will be hired, the GOED Board authorized a post-performance refundable tax credit up to $316,275 over 10 years.

But even if that were true, at nearly three times the cost for the F-35 that's pretty high price for the tax-payer to pay for these 'phantom' jobs.

Wiki-numbers. Dig deeper and look into accepted cost of the programs. Cost estimates rise and fall but in reality, the F35 is widely accepted to be a bit cheaper than the Typhoon.

Then again we are talking about aircraft with different roles, which as a fish-head you know sweet F.A about. I promise I won’t argue with you about grey boats and how much they cost vs capable asset. You should study the air defence industry closer.

The Typhoon is a competent air superiority fighter. Not a mud-mover at all.

The F35 is a multi-role aircraft. It is a competent air superiority aircraft and an excellent fighter-bomber/ground-support/recce aircraft. It's just a good kite.

The Typhoon is an OK kite. It just misses 'good' at it's assigned role.

Any idea what the uppgraded F/A-18 E's and F's cost? They might look the same as out current F-18's, but they're supposed to be about three generations ahead of our old kites.

Figure if they're good enough for the US Navy then they should be good enough for us, especially if they're already familiar to our air and ground crew and also don't cost as much. Might be worth some consideration.

And sorry, 'compositeworlds.com' is hardly a definitive defence org. and recognised site.

It's just not Janes or Rueters or Bloomberg or the US Dept of Defense whom I have quoted to your wiki and bollocks.websites.com 'quotes'.

You should just give up now. You know little.

A fair question Thanos.

If you scroll back a bit (you lazy git!) you'll see my posts on the Aussies ordering the F18E/F as an interim combat aircraft until they get their F35's.

The Aussies are a great 'best practices' place to look.

We are more like the Aussies than we are like the Brits or Yanks in many ways (minus Quebec).
