sorry pipes do save lives or at least injuires. less then a week ago i was riding with a buddy through downtown edm. going down jasper and some retard who isnt watching is about to pull into our lane, The driver, pulls the clutch and revs the engine a bit, the guy stops dead from coming into ourlane, less then 20 feet up at the light the guy says "sorry man, good thing I HEARD you or i would have kept on going over." Ill take loud pipes over death or injury anyday.

I dont mind the law but i do mind its not applied to all vehicles as it should be.

Wullu Wullu:
I could not care less about the sound level, it is the hypocrisy of the straight pipe crowd that annoys me.

The tired and BS arguement that "pipes save lives" is about ready to drive me postal. The same morons who spout off that crap are the ones you see riding wearing nothing but sandles, shorts, a T-shirt (maybe) and a freaking skull cap.

They could not care less about their safety, it's their freaking egos that are in danger.

I have been riding for 37 years, on the highways and byways for 30 of those years and not once did I ever have so much as a close call. Why? Because I pay attention instead of looking for attention.

A guy wearing sandles, shorts, no helmet, and driving a harley with straight pipes.

thats just not a stereo type that the edmonton police need to focus a lot of resources on, its just not that common here in Canada

Most of us middle class geeks go for the full 10W40 look...leather, black tshirts with some sort of heavy metal satan worshiping logo, cowboy boots or work boots with the toes worn off, and some shiny sunglasses to hide the fear in our eyes.

$1:
A 47-year-old man was air lifted by STARS to the University of Alberta Hospital in Edmonton Tuesday night following a motorcycle accident in Rimbey.

Cam Heke, spokesperson with STARS, said the patient was in stable condition during the transfer.

Const. Matthew Bentz with Rimbey RCMP said a semi-truck, SUV and motorcycle were travelling north on Highway 20 when the truck slowed down to make a left-hand turn into the UFA gas bar.

The SUV slowed down but the cyclist, unaware the truck was turning left, tried to pass and collided with the back end of the truck, he said.

Rimbey fire chief John Weisgerber said the collision occurred around 9:30 p.m.

The motorcyclist, who is from Bluffton, Alberta, was taken to Rimbey Hospital where he was picked up by air ambulance.

Pipes or no pipes aren't going to help with a bonehead move like that. Both made a mental error but you lose every time if your on 2 wheels.

Bullshit! It's like saying bass turned to 11 or those annoying coffee can mufflers on ricers saves lives. It is about nothing but attention seeking.

Knowing what you are doing while sitting in the saddle is what saves lives and injury. No amount of noise is going to save anything.

It's a bullshit arguement to try and justify an ego trip. Nothing more.

R=UP

Although, it would be irony if the fart can + 1000 watt bazooka tubes saved a life, because on many occasions they have cause me to want to end one.

actually, the straigh pipes are a 'chopper' culture, you remove as much weight from the bike that you can, then you open up the exhaust and rejet the carb. All 3 very simle mods to make a bike faster. Now many of the styling and sounds are a big part of the motorcycle culture. I foyu think its alll about 'ego' you obviously dont understand a damn thing about motorcycle history

A Harley Sportster comes stock with 45 horsies. Open up the exhaust and rejet the carb, and you can add another 5-8 hp.

ASL, you won't be changing any minds here.

If a person has never had the experience of watching a car start turning in
a blind corner and then stop cause they heard something....
They'll never believe that pipes work.

If a person posts pictures of a biker doing something dumb, and thinks its
relevant to this thread...
They'll never believe that pipes work.

If a person openly admits that drivers are becoming more stupid,
driving with coffee and cellphones and laptops,
yet cheers this new law...
They'll never believe pipes work.

If a person posts that this law is only for bikes, meanwhile
all other forms of noisemakers.. hopped up cars etc. wont get worked on
for another 5 or 6 years, and thinks its ok...
They'll never believe.

Funny how the current bylaws which apply to everyone else dont seem to
be enough in this case. Guess there isn't enough money in it. :)

I have said before, find out whoever won the contract for the $24,000 tachs,
and follow it back to city hall. Which btw, is the best confirmation
the cops will chase a few Harleys down, as most HDs dont come with a tach. ;)

Meh, I'm not worried.

Pipes, pipes, pipes, IMO a strobe head light will prevent more crashes than pipes will, but you don’t see many bikes with them. Could it be that you look like your riding scared and kind of a wuss if you have one?

Personally, I like a quiet exhaust system. on my bike or on my car. 5 years ago, I had a buddy give me a used car, it was a rust bucket that had many repairs made to it....once I replaced the exhaust system, if was a pleasant vehicle to drive.

Same goes for my Harley, I enjoyed it after removing the muffler and wearing ear plugs. jk
