Wait, why can't Saudi-Arabia become the lynch pin of the Middle-East again? They have the money and the oil.

They're too busy funding wahabi terrorists in other Muslim nations. It's not like they are the most liked group. The Turks also have the same trouble that the Iranians do.....they're not Arab and they have a long history of conflict(or subjugating in the Turks case) with Arabs.

The author is hardly an unbiased source, he is heavily involved in the US military and his theory about Japan has more holes than Swiss Cheese. The chances of Japan becoming more militaristic are nearly nil, their population is becoming increasingly pacifistic and the last of their war veterans are dying off which will largely end the ultranationalism. By 2050 you will see more nationalism in the average American town than in Japan. I have a friend from Japan who has stated the same thing, in fact, she pointed out that Korea was more likely to go ultranationalist than Japan is using recent trends as a guide (Japan has been declining while Korea has been increasing). The only way to get Japan out of this would be an attack by North Korea or China; neither of which are insane enough to do it as they know it will result in the annihilation of their country either militarily, economically, politically, or a combination of them.
He also made a statement about the USA being the power of the 21st century, recently this is being called into question. The USA has a monumental debt built up, skyrocketing costs to run their programs, and a military sucking up a sizable portion of their economy, the most likely end to this will be a downsizing of the bloated defense budget. The US has managed to piss off most of the world including their own allies and it will be very interesting to see just what is left of their military by the end of it.
Turkey has been moving away from the US lately but they are a complete wild card and very well may end up coming back to the US, the only reason they aren't being good friends with Israel and the US right now is their new leadership.
Back to the author. In short, he is a doomsayer that has come up with a theory that is extremely biased by his heavy involvement in the US military and the fact he has a Ph.D in Political Studies does not help his statements, most predictions are complete guesses grabbing desperately at any facts they can. His theories should be taken with a grain of salt.

DerbyX DerbyX: commanderkai commanderkai: It's not sarcasm, it's insults. Comparing somebody's beliefs, even jokingly, to that of Hitler or Stalin is wrong, and you know it.
No, whats wrong is your disgusting revisionist belief that Hitler was anything but a christian compounded by your blaming communism and Atheism for 100 million deaths when you attempt to mitigate or deflect your religions great evil in the world. That is insulting to all intelligent beings. Don't ever try and post holocaust denial history again, and denying Hitler was a christian IS holocaust revisionism. I'd love another shot at you over this. ------------------------------------------------Your statements are totally unfounded!!!! Where are they backed by reason or logic or truth? They are based on your own ego and opinion. Do you have any facts to support your words?

Dragom Dragom: Wait, why can't Saudi-Arabia become the lynch pin of the Middle-East again? They have the money and the oil. Because other than oil, they have nothing in the form of an economy. No industry, nothing. Turkey, on the other hand, is modernizing quickly and building an industrial base and is already the world's 17th largest economy. Basedon their current growth, they could reach the top 10 by 2040, which is when he predicts this conflict may occur. Friedman also mentions other possible 'leaders' of Islam (Iran and Egypt), but discounts them both because of their terrible economies, as well as the fact that Iran is already a pariah.

I feel like I walked into a movie at the halfway point.I have read this thread from start to finish, and nowhere did I see commanderkai come anywhere close to holocaust denial. If I am not mistaken I am pretty sure I read a thread a few weeks ago about Israel, and commanderkai was taking point in the defense of Israel.Hardly something a holocaust denier would take the time to do. I have a pretty good idea who he was talking to, just posted in the wrong thread.

Why should the islamic world need a leader anyway? Turkey would do "the islamic world" a giant favour be not trying to speak for the islamic world and instead just be an example of a modern country with a majority of muslims living a modern and peaceful life.

But, IN the spirit of fairness and trying to keep my levels of acrimony down at least, I give you a peace offering Derby. Through exhaustive searches and research, I discovered photographic evidence backing up your claim about Hitler being a Christian. However, it turns out he was REALLY a Southern Baptist:
